Role Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Security Architect for an 18-month, 100% onsite contract role in Santa Ana, CA. The ideal candidate will provide senior-level security architecture and hands-on engineering support for enterprise network and security systems, ensuring security, compliance, and audit readiness aligned with CJIS and NIST standards. This role requires acting as the departmental Subject Matter Expert (SME), mentoring IT staff, creating SOPs, and leading knowledge transfer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Security, Compliance, and Audit Readiness: Enforce network security controls aligned with CJIS, NIST, and department policy. Implement and maintain firewall rulesets, NAC solutions (e.g., Cisco ISE), and endpoint access policies. Support incident detection, forensic analysis, and mitigation strategies. Prepare documentation and evidence for security audits and compliance reviews.
- Implementation, Operations, and Support: Serve as a hands-on engineer for network deployments, upgrades, and incident responses. Configure and manage Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs), and wireless endpoints. Design and manage VPNs (site-to-site, remote access), QoS, ACLs, and network monitoring and logging systems (SolarWinds, NetFlow, SNMP).
- SME Leadership and Staff Development: Act as the department’s SME on enterprise security across IT and public safety systems. Train, coach, and mentor junior and mid-level network technicians; lead knowledge transfer and hands-on training sessions. Create SOPs, how-to guides, and step-by-step documentation for internal staff. Support staff preparation for certification paths (e.g., CCNA/CCNP).
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in network/security architecture and operations.
- Proven experience with Cisco networking (switches, routers, firewalls, WLCs, VPNs).
- Strong background in security and compliance (CJIS, NIST, NAC, incident response, audit readiness).
- Experience with network monitoring & management tools (SolarWinds, NetFlow, SNMP), ACLs, and QoS.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience, with the ability to develop documentation and training materials.
- Note: No sponsorship is available; all applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
Nice-to-Have:
- Advanced experience with CJIS/NIST compliance, endpoint access management, and security audits.
- Proficiency with Cisco WLCs, VPNs, QoS, ACLs, and enterprise monitoring tools.
- SME experience in enterprise security, public safety, or government networks.
- Experience creating SOPs, training programs, and mentoring IT staff toward certifications (CCNA/CCNP).
- Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating network/security risks.
Required Pre-Submission Questions:

- Please list Wireless Security Experience (design and secure corporate wireless, IOC or BYOD).
- Please list any projects for architecting Cybersecurity SIEM solutions.
- Please list projects where you were responsible for overall security architecture, including framework alignment.
- Any experience with Cybersecurity architecting for CJIS, DOD, or Federal government?
This is an 18-month contract position, 100% onsite in Santa Ana, CA. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
