About the Role:

We are seeking a Sr. Security Architect for a critical 18-month, 100% onsite contract role in Santa Ana, CA. This position requires senior-level security architecture and hands-on engineering expertise to support enterprise network and security systems for public safety and departmental operations. The ideal candidate will ensure security, compliance, and audit readiness aligned with CJIS and NIST standards, and will lead implementation, operations, incident response, and ongoing support for network/security infrastructure. You will also serve as the departmental Subject Matter Expert (SME), coach internal IT staff, create SOPs, and lead knowledge transfer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Security, Compliance, and Audit Readiness: Enforce network security controls aligned with CJIS, NIST, and department policy. Implement and maintain firewall rulesets, NAC solutions (e.g., Cisco ISE), and endpoint access policies. Support incident detection, forensic analysis, and mitigation strategies. Prepare documentation and evidence for security audits and compliance reviews.
  • Implementation, Operations, and Support: Serve as a hands-on engineer for network deployments, upgrades, and incident responses. Configure and manage Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, Wireless LAN Controllers (WLCs), and wireless endpoints. Design and manage VPNs (site-to-site, remote access), QoS, ACLs, network monitoring and logging systems (SolarWinds, NetFlow, SNMP).
  • SME Leadership and Staff Development: Serve as the department’s SME on enterprise security across IT and public safety systems. Train, coach, and mentor junior and mid-level network technicians; lead knowledge transfer and hands-on training sessions. Create SOPs, how-to guides, and step-by-step documentation for ongoing use by internal staff. Support staff preparation for certification paths (e.g., CCNA/CCNP) if desired.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in network/security architecture and operations.
  • Proven experience with Cisco networking (switches, routers, firewalls, WLCs, VPNs).
  • Strong background in security and compliance (CJIS, NIST, NAC, incident response, audit readiness).
  • Experience with network monitoring & management tools (SolarWinds, NetFlow, SNMP), ACLs, and QoS.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience, with the ability to develop documentation and training materials.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. (No sponsorship available).

Nice-to-Have:

  • Advanced experience with CJIS/NIST compliance, endpoint access management, and security audits.
  • Proficiency with Cisco WLCs, VPNs, QoS, ACLs, and enterprise monitoring tools.
  • SME experience in enterprise security, public safety, or government networks.
  • Experience creating SOPs, training programs, and mentoring IT staff toward certifications (CCNA/CCNP).
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating network/security risks.

  • Please list any projects for architecting Cybersecurity SIEM solutions.
  • Please list projects where you were responsible for overall security architecture, including framework alignment.
  • Any experience with Cybersecurity architecting for CJIS, DOD, or Federal government?

Compensation & Location

Salary: $100,000 – $150,000 per year (Estimated)
