Role Overview: Systems Administrator (Banking Sector)
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Systems Administrator to join a premier banking institution in Richmond, Virginia. This long-term contract position is designed for a professional who thrives in a hybrid environment, balancing the flexibility of remote work with the collaborative benefits of being onsite three days a week. This role is pivotal in maintaining the integrity and performance of our UNIX and Linux-based infrastructure, which serves as the backbone for critical financial transactions and data management.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Environment
- Manage and maintain enterprise-level UNIX and Linux server environments, ensuring 99.9% uptime for critical banking applications and services.
- Develop and optimize complex shell scripts using BASH and Perl to automate routine maintenance tasks, system monitoring, and data processing workflows.
- Configure and manage CRON jobs for precise scheduling of system backups, log rotations, and batch processing, ensuring no disruption to banking operations.
- Collaborate with the security team to implement hardening standards and ensure compliance with strict financial industry regulations and data privacy laws.
- Perform root cause analysis for system outages and performance bottlenecks, providing scalable solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Support the integration of legacy systems with modern cloud-based services in a hybrid infrastructure model, facilitating a seamless transition to next-generation banking platforms.
- Monitor system performance metrics and provide capacity planning reports to ensure the infrastructure can handle peak transaction volumes.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution, ensuring data integrity and rapid restoration of services in the event of a failure.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Proven experience in a Systems Administration role, preferably within the financial services or banking industry where high availability is paramount.
- Expert-level proficiency in various Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu) and UNIX environments.
- Strong command of scripting languages, specifically BASH and Perl, for automation and system management.
- Deep understanding of CRON scheduling and system automation tools.
- Must be a US Citizen (USC) or Green Card (GC) holder due to the sensitive nature of the banking data.
- Candidates must be local to the Richmond, VA area or willing to relocate immediately to meet the 3-day onsite requirement.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $105,000 – $145,000 per year (Estimated)
