Role Overview: Technical Business System Analyst (Level 5)
Thoughtwave Software and Solutions Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Technical Business System Analyst for a long-term contract engagement with the Michigan State Police (MSP). This is a high-level ‘Business Analyst 5’ position requiring a minimum of 12 to 15 years of professional experience. The successful candidate will act as a critical bridge between complex business requirements and technical implementation, ensuring that large-scale application projects are delivered with precision and technical integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and high-level stakeholders to align organizational goals with technical capabilities.
- Lead technical discussions with developers and architects to translate business needs into detailed technical design documents.
- Review technical designs and specifications for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to quality standards.
- Analyze raw project data to extract actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making.
- Evaluate ‘build vs. buy’ scenarios and assess the modernization of legacy systems versus the integration of third-party applications.
- Mentor junior Business Analysts and lead cross-functional initiatives to ensure on-time project delivery.
- Facilitate communication between technical teams (QA, Infrastructure, Dev) and non-technical business owners.
Required Technical Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 12+ years (15+ preferred) of experience as a dedicated Business Analyst in large-scale environments.
- 8+ years of experience eliciting requirements and authoring technical design documents in partnership with solution architects.
- Expertise in responsive design and human-centric application development.
- Proficiency in process modeling tools for flowcharts, data models, and business process diagrams.
- Strong knowledge of Agile, DevOps, and modern programming frameworks.
- Experience with legacy system modernization and emerging technologies.
- Exceptional analytical skills for data-driven decision-making under pressure.
Work Environment and Logistics
This position is based in Dimondale, MI, and operates on a hybrid schedule requiring 2 to 5 days onsite per week at the manager’s discretion. Candidates must be local to Michigan (within a 2-hour radius of Dimondale) at the time of submission. The interview process is strictly in-person at the MSP Headquarters, and candidates must present a valid ID during the interview.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $135,000 – $175,000 per year (Estimated)
