Role Overview: Technical Project Manager (Database Migration)
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Project Manager to lead a critical Oracle to PostgreSQL migration initiative in Irving, Texas. This role is pivotal for our client’s database modernization strategy, requiring a leader who can navigate the complexities of cross-platform database transitions while maintaining high availability and data integrity. As the TPM, you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of the migration, from initial assessment and feasibility studies to the final cutover and post-production support.
Key Responsibilities and Strategic Leadership
- Lead and manage comprehensive Oracle to PostgreSQL migration projects, ensuring all milestones are met within scope, budget, and timeline constraints.
- Collaborate with Database Administrators (DBAs), Cloud Architects, and Software Developers to define the migration strategy, including schema conversion, data transformation, and application code remediation.
- Oversee the technical assessment of existing Oracle environments to identify potential compatibility issues, stored procedure complexities, and performance bottlenecks.
- Manage project risks and dependencies, particularly those related to data consistency, performance tuning in the target PostgreSQL environment, and integration with existing DevOps pipelines.
- Facilitate communication between technical teams and business stakeholders, providing transparent reporting on project KPIs, migration progress, and resource utilization.
- Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and performance benchmarking to ensure the migrated environment meets or exceeds the performance of the legacy system.
- Develop and maintain operational runbooks and documentation to ensure a smooth transition to the production support teams.
Technical Environment and Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of both Oracle and PostgreSQL architectures. You should be familiar with migration tools such as AWS SCT (Schema Conversion Tool), DMS (Database Migration Service), or Ora2Pg. Experience in cloud-native environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is highly preferred, as many of these migrations are part of a broader cloud adoption strategy. In the 2026 landscape, the ability to integrate AI-driven migration assistants and automated testing frameworks into the project workflow is a significant advantage. Irving, TX, continues to be a major hub for financial services and telecommunications, making this role central to the region’s ongoing digital transformation efforts.
Project Management Excellence
Beyond technical prowess, you must demonstrate mastery in Agile and Hybrid project management methodologies. You will lead daily stand-ups, manage backlogs, and ensure that the migration team remains focused on high-priority deliverables. Your ability to negotiate resource allocation and manage vendor relationships will be critical to the project’s success. We are looking for a proactive problem-solver who can anticipate technical hurdles before they impact the critical path.
Special Requirements
Day-1 onsite requirement in Irving, TX; Strong experience in Oracle to PostgreSQL migration is mandatory.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $155,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)
