Project Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Technical Project Manager to lead a high-stakes database modernization initiative: migrating a massive enterprise environment from Oracle to PostgreSQL. This project is a critical component of our client’s digital transformation strategy, aimed at reducing licensing costs and leveraging the scalability of open-source database technologies. As the TPM, you will be the primary driver of this migration, ensuring that data integrity, system performance, and business continuity are maintained throughout the transition. This role is based in Irving, TX, and requires a Day-1 onsite presence to facilitate close coordination with the engineering and database administration teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end project management lifecycle for the Oracle to PostgreSQL migration, from initial assessment to final cutover.
  • Define and manage the project scope, detailed milestones, resource allocation, and budget tracking.
  • Coordinate with Database Administrators (DBAs), Cloud Architects, and Software Developers to execute schema conversions and data remediation.
  • Oversee the implementation of migration tools and automated scripts to ensure efficient data transfer with minimal downtime.
  • Manage risk mitigation strategies, specifically focusing on performance tuning and compatibility issues between Oracle PL/SQL and PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL.
  • Facilitate regular stakeholder meetings, providing transparent reporting on KPIs, project health, and potential blockers.
  • Direct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and performance benchmarking to validate the new environment against legacy standards.
  • Ensure the creation of comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams and operational runbooks for the post-migration environment.

Technical and Leadership Requirements

  • Proven track record of managing large-scale database migration projects, specifically Oracle to PostgreSQL.
  • Deep understanding of database architectures, including indexing strategies, stored procedures, and data replication methods.
  • Strong familiarity with migration tools such as AWS SCT/DMS, ora2pg, or similar enterprise-grade solutions.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum frameworks and utilizing project management tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a high-pressure environment with strict deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges related to data consistency and application latency.
  • Strong communication skills to bridge the gap between technical execution and executive-level business objectives.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $155,000 – $205,000 per year (Estimated)
