Role Overview: Technical Writer (API Specialist)

iTech US, Inc. is looking for a seasoned Technical Writer specializing in API documentation for a long-term onsite contract in Cleveland, Ohio. In the 2026 technology landscape, the API economy is the backbone of digital transformation, and clear, concise documentation is the bridge between complex engineering and developer success. This role is not just about writing; it is about understanding the architecture of RESTful services and translating technical specifications into actionable guides for both internal and external developers. You will work closely with engineering teams to document the next generation of software interfaces, ensuring that our documentation is as robust and scalable as the code it describes.

Key Responsibilities and Strategic Impact

  • API Documentation Lifecycle: You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of API documentation, including writing reference materials, conceptual guides, and interactive tutorials. This includes detailing API functions, parameters, data structures, authentication methods (OAuth, JWT), and comprehensive error message catalogs.
  • Tooling and Standards: Utilize industry-standard tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI and Postman to generate and maintain interactive documentation. You will manage content within Git-based systems like GitHub Enterprise or GitLab, following a “docs-as-code” philosophy to ensure documentation stays in sync with code releases.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner directly with developers, product managers, and systems engineers to extract technical details. You will participate in sprint reviews and design sessions to understand new features before they are released, ensuring that documentation is ready at the time of launch.
  • Content Governance: Regularly review and edit existing documentation to reflect API versioning and deprecation cycles. You will establish and maintain style guides to ensure consistency across all technical communications.
  • Developer Experience (DX): Gather feedback from the developer community and internal stakeholders to identify gaps in documentation. You will use these insights to improve the usability, searchability, and clarity of our developer portals.

Technical Proficiency and Requirements

Candidates should have 3 to 5+ years of experience specifically focused on API documentation. A strong understanding of RESTful APIs and JSON is essential. You must be comfortable reading at least one or two programming languages (such as Java, Python, or JavaScript) to understand the context of the APIs you are documenting. Proficiency with GitHub Enterprise and Markdown is required. The ideal candidate will have a portfolio demonstrating their ability to explain complex technical concepts simply and effectively. This is an onsite role in Cleveland, requiring a professional who thrives in a collaborative, face-to-face environment.

Special Requirements

Onsite role; Long-term contract; Requires GitHub Enterprise and RESTful API knowledge.
