About the Role: Technical Writer
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer to join our team. This role is crucial for creating and maintaining high-quality documentation that supports our products and services. You will be responsible for transforming complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content for a variety of audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Content Creation: Develop, write, edit, and update a wide range of technical materials. This includes user manuals, installation guides, release notes, frequently asked questions (FAQs), and online help content. Your goal is to ensure all documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and easy to understand.
- Documentation Maintenance: Regularly update, maintain, and archive existing documentation. This ensures that all materials accurately reflect current product versions, bug fixes, new features, and any other changes that occur over the product lifecycle.
- Information Gathering: Proactively study product samples, meticulously review technical specifications, and conduct interviews with subject-matter experts (SMEs) across various departments. This deep dive is essential to fully understand the subject matter you will be documenting.
- Audience Analysis: Analyze the intended audience for each piece of documentation. Tailor the language, tone, and level of detail to be appropriate, accessible, and clear for their specific technical skill level and background.
- Visual Integration: Develop, gather, or create necessary visual aids such as graphs, diagrams, screenshots, and illustrations. These visuals are vital for enhancing user comprehension and engagement with the documentation.
- Editing and Standardization: Review, edit, and format all content to ensure consistency in tone, style, and structure. Adhere to established style guides and best practices to maintain a professional and unified brand voice across all documentation.
- Collaboration: Work closely and collaboratively with product developers, engineers, UX designers, customer support teams, and other stakeholders. This cross-functional collaboration is key to gathering accurate information and validating the technical content.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in content creation, including writing, editing, and updating technical documents such as user manuals, installation guides, and release notes.
- Demonstrated ability in documentation maintenance, ensuring content remains current and accurate.
- Strong information gathering skills, with the ability to interview SMEs and understand technical specifications.
- Excellent audience analysis capabilities, adapting content for different technical levels.
- Experience in creating or integrating visual elements like diagrams and screenshots.
- Proficiency in editing and standardizing content for consistency.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including developers and designers.
- A portfolio showcasing previous technical writing work is highly recommended.
Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with specific documentation tools or platforms.
- Experience in user experience (UX) writing.
- Knowledge of the industries relevant to San Antonio or Plano, TX.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $50,000 – $80,000 per year
