Role Overview: Test Automation Engineer IV

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Test Automation Engineer IV to join our dynamic engineering team in Cincinnati, OH. This is a senior-level position requiring a deep understanding of software quality assurance, automated testing frameworks, and the ability to lead technical initiatives within an Agile environment. As a Level IV engineer, you will be responsible for the architectural design and implementation of robust automation solutions that ensure the reliability and performance of our enterprise-scale applications.

Key Responsibilities and Technical Leadership

  • Collaborate extensively with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to identify critical application workflows and business processes that are candidates for automation.
  • Design, develop, and maintain sophisticated automated test scripts using Java and Selenium WebDriver, ensuring high code quality and reusability.
  • Architect and enhance scalable automation frameworks, moving beyond simple script execution to create modular, maintainable components.
  • Utilize Cucumber and Gherkin syntax to implement Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) practices, bridging the gap between technical implementation and business requirements.
  • Develop underlying Java reusable functions and utility classes that map directly to Gherkin steps, facilitating a clear and readable test suite.
  • Configure and manage complex test execution environments using JUnit and specialized Test Runner classes to optimize execution time and coverage.
  • Oversee external dependency management using Maven, ensuring the Project Object Model (POM) is correctly configured for all automation projects.
  • Support and integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, specifically utilizing Jenkins to trigger test runs and generate comprehensive reporting for development teams.
  • Provide mentorship to junior and mid-level automation engineers, conducting code reviews and promoting best practices in software testing.

Required Technical Expertise

  • A minimum of 4+ years of professional experience specifically focused on Java-based web automation.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Java programming, including a strong grasp of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles, collections (HashMap, Set, List), and exception handling.
  • Advanced knowledge of Selenium WebDriver, including complex element identification using custom XPath and CSS locators.
  • Proven experience handling dynamic web elements, synchronization issues (explicit/implicit waits), and multi-window/frame interactions.
  • Hands-on experience with Maven-based project structures and the ability to manage build lifecycles.
  • While Cucumber experience is preferred, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to quickly master Gherkin syntax and BDD methodologies.
