Role Overview: Workday Financials Senior Consultant
The Workday Financials Consultant position in Richmond, VA, represents a critical opportunity for a seasoned professional to join a high-growth Financial Performance Management team. As a Senior Consultant, you will act as a bridge between complex financial business requirements and technical Workday configurations. You will be tasked with mentoring junior consultants and interns, ensuring that project work plans are executed with precision and that client expectations are not just met, but exceeded. Key Responsibilities and Strategic Impact
- Lead the design and implementation of Workday Financials, focusing on the Foundation Data Model (FDM) to ensure a robust reporting structure.
- Facilitate design workshops with key stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into functional specifications.
- Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of financial process improvements, from initial assessment to post-go-live support.
- Oversee data conversion activities, ensuring that legacy financial data is accurately mapped and migrated to the Workday environment.
- Configure complex business processes (BPs) and workflows to automate financial operations and enhance organizational efficiency.
- Provide expert guidance on accounting operations, financial frameworks, and business intelligence tools to optimize client decision-making.
- Identify areas of risk within project scopes and develop mitigation strategies to keep implementations on track and within budget.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their financial reporting and data management requirements.
- Design and architect Workday Financials configurations, including the FDM, workflows/BPs, account structures, and integrations with other systems.
Technical Expertise and Domain Knowledge
The successful candidate must possess a deep understanding of Workday’s architectural capabilities. This includes a mastery of account structures, integration points with third-party systems, and the nuances of financial security and compliance. You will be expected to implement best practices that align with global accounting standards while tailoring solutions to the specific industry needs of a diverse client portfolio. Your ability to interpret complex data sets and summarize findings for executive-level personnel is paramount. Furthermore, the role requires a proactive approach to project management. You will be responsible for project staffing recommendations and the preparation of high-quality deliverables. Professional Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is mandatory for this role.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in professional services, consulting, or a corporate FP&A environment.
- Workday Record to Report (R2R) or Contracts to Cash (C2C) certifications are highly preferred and will be prioritized.
- Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel for data modeling and PowerPoint for executive presentations.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record of building and maintaining professional networks and client relationships.
- Ability to translate and communicate issues, risks or challenges to client personnel, including executives.
- Supervisory experience of teams including mentoring, oversight and review of work, coordination across teams, and understanding how to motivate.

Salary: $145,000 – $165,000 per year
