Role Overview
The Workday Functional Analyst III – HCM Specialist is a critical role designed to lead the functional design, configuration, and management of Core HCM modules within a large-scale enterprise environment. This position is 100% remote (Virtual, USA) and requires a deep understanding of Workday’s ecosystem to drive business process optimization and deliver high-impact solutions. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, bridging the gap between HR business needs and technical system capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the functional design and configuration of Core HCM modules including Benefits, Talent, Payroll, Advanced Compensation, Absence, Time Entry, and Learning.
- Drive clarity in ambiguous business requirements, delivering well-thought-out solutions that adapt to rapid business changes.
- Provide expert-level support for system upgrades, product releases, and troubleshooting.
- Engage with stakeholders across HR, IT, and other departments to ensure alignment and successful project delivery.
- Create comprehensive functional documentation and user job aids to maximize team efficiency.
- Continuously analyze and improve business process effectiveness and user experience.
- Promote module adoption and deliver training to end-users.
- Mentor team members and participate in the hiring process to strengthen the overall team capability.
- Execute standard Workday integrations and configurations, including EIBs and Core Connectors.
- Develop custom reports and provide compliance reporting assistance for internal audits.
- Reproduce technical issues and create detailed technical cases for resolution.
- Recommend improvements to technical SOPs, controls, tools, and metrics.
Technical Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an ERP platform with a proven track record of enterprise-level projects.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience specifically with Workday.
- Workday Pro or Workday Partner Certification is highly preferred.
- Extensive experience in at least 3 core HCM modules (e.g., Payroll, Compensation, Absence).
- Basic programming ability in foundational languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is a plus.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and SDLC tools like Jira or ADO.
- Experience with other ERP platforms like PeopleSoft, Lawson, or SAP is an advantage.
Compliance and Regulatory Knowledge
- Deep understanding of FLSA, IRS/Payroll Tax Compliance, and Global Payroll Integrations (HMRC, GST/VAT).
- Knowledge of Wage Theft Prevention and Local Labor Laws in a global configuration context.
- Experience handling sensitive data under HIPAA and GDPR regulations.
- Expertise in Access & Role-Based Security (SOX) models, including business process security policies and segregation of duties.
- Ability to design secure integrations ensuring APIs and Studio integrations do not expose PII data improperly.
Special Requirements
Remote – Virtual USA; Workday Pro or Workday Partner Certification preferred; Domain restrictions: Healthcare, Financial Services, Government; Security: SOX, GDPR, HIPAA.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $140,000 – $185,000 per year (Estimated)
Location: Troy, MI
