Role: Kafka Administrator
We are seeking a skilled Kafka Administrator with a strong focus on automation to manage, secure, and scale high-availability Kafka clusters. This role involves working with both on-premise and cloud environments, utilizing infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and GitOps to minimize manual intervention and ensure efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Automation Tasks: Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and Python scripts to automate Kafka installation, broker configuration, upgrades, and patching.
- Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Implement Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and establish GitOps workflows (ArgoCD, Jenkins) for continuous deployment and management.
- Cluster Management & Deployment: Deploy and manage Confluent Platform using Confluent for Kubernetes (CFK) on OpenShift/Kubernetes. Manage Kafka Raft (KRaft) mode, topics, partitions, and replication factors to ensure high availability and fault tolerance.
- Monitoring & Performance Tuning: Utilize Prometheus, Grafana, and Confluent Control Center for proactive monitoring of broker health, consumer lag, producer latency, and overall cluster performance.
- Security & Compliance: Implement and automate security protocols including SASL/SSL, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Access Control Lists (ACLs), and certificate management to ensure data security and compliance.
- Kafka Connect & Schema Registry: Configure, manage, and automate the deployment of Kafka Connectors (e.g., S3, JDBC, Snowflake) and manage data governance through Confluent Schema Registry.
- Disaster Recovery: Set up and manage Active-Passive clusters and ClusterLink for multi-region replication to ensure business continuity.
Required Technical Skills:
- 10+ years of experience in Apache Kafka/Confluent Kafka administration.
- Proven experience as an independent lead performer in automation.
- Expertise in Automation Tools: Ansible, Terraform, GitOps, Shell scripting, Python.
- Infrastructure Knowledge: Kubernetes (OpenShift), Linux.
- Monitoring Tools: Prometheus, Grafana, JMX.
- Networking & Security: TLS, Kerberos, SASL, RBAC.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with Kraft mode.
- Familiarity with DDM (Distributed Data Management) programming techniques.
- Experience using IBMi Navigator for database analysis.
Note: This is a long-term, onsite position requiring 10+ years of experience. The role emphasizes automation and infrastructure management for Kafka clusters.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $120,000 – $160,000 per year (Estimated)
