Role Overview
We are looking for a Lead Mainframe Database Engineer to join our team in Atlanta, GA. This onsite role is critical for maintaining the stability, performance, and security of our enterprise-level mainframe database environments. As a lead engineer, you will be responsible for the administration and optimization of zDb2, IMS DBDC, and ADABAS systems. You will play a key role in ensuring that our mission-critical data remains available and performant, supporting a wide range of business applications. This position requires a deep technical understanding of mainframe architectures and the ability to lead complex database migration and upgrade projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Administration: Perform comprehensive administration of IBM DB2 on zOS platforms, including partitioning, indexing, and data sharing.
- Performance Tuning: Utilize advanced SQL and DB2 performance tuning techniques to optimize system throughput and minimize latency.
- Data Replication: Manage and maintain replication software, specifically the IIDR IBM Infosphere Data Replication suite, to ensure data consistency across platforms.
- API Integration: Work with the zConnect Enterprise Edition (zCEE) API framework to facilitate modern application access to mainframe data.
- Disaster Recovery: Lead the planning and execution of database backups, recovery procedures, and comprehensive disaster recovery strategies.
- Troubleshooting: Act as the final point of escalation for complex database-related issues, providing root cause analysis and permanent resolutions.
- Vendor Management: Collaborate with external software vendors to manage upgrades, patches, and technical support for mainframe database products.
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience with zDb2, IMS DBDC, and/or ADABAS.
- Expert knowledge of Job Control Language (JCL) and mainframe operating system concepts.
- Proficiency with IBM Infosphere Data Replication (IIDR) tools.
- Strong understanding of data security best practices and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience with service level management, change management, and incident resolution frameworks.
- Relevant certifications in DB2 or related mainframe database technologies are highly desirable.
Work Environment and Collaboration
This is a full-time onsite position in Atlanta, GA, requiring participation in an on-call rotation to support 24/7 database availability. You will collaborate closely with internal infrastructure teams, application developers, and business stakeholders to ensure that database systems meet the evolving needs of the organization. The role demands a proactive approach to system monitoring and a commitment to continuous improvement in database management practices. You will be expected to mentor junior staff and contribute to the development of long-term database strategy and architecture.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $160,000 – $210,000 per year (Estimated)
