Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior C# / C++ Developer for a critical 6-month contract engagement focused on the modernization of legacy financial and operational systems. This role is specifically designed for a technical expert with a proven track record in migrating complex VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) environments into modern, scalable C# architectures. As a remote consultant, you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of the migration project, ensuring that legacy logic is not only preserved but optimized for the 2026 technological landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct deep-dive analysis of existing legacy VBA codebases to understand underlying business logic, data structures, and dependencies.
- Architect and implement robust migration strategies to transition legacy applications to C# and the .NET ecosystem.
- Redesign and refactor logic to improve application performance, security, and maintainability.
- Develop high-performance components using C++ where low-level system interaction or intensive computational processing is required.
- Ensure functional parity between the legacy systems and the new C# applications through rigorous unit and integration testing.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to document system requirements and technical specifications.
- Debug complex issues arising from legacy system constraints and modern environment compatibility.
- Provide technical leadership on best practices for code modernization and refactoring.
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of 8+ years of professional software development experience in enterprise environments.
- Expert-level proficiency in C# and the .NET framework/Core.
- Strong hands-on experience with C++ development and debugging.
- Extensive experience specifically in VBA to C# migration projects; candidates must demonstrate an understanding of Excel Object Models and Access-based legacy tools.
- Deep understanding of legacy system modernization patterns and microservices architecture.
- Proficiency in SQL Server or similar relational databases for data migration and backend integration.
- Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex legacy scripts into clean, documented, and efficient modern code.

Salary: $155,000 – $215,000 per year (Estimated)
