Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and seasoned Java Backend Developer for a long-term hybrid position based in Houston, Texas. This role is specifically designed for a hands-on technical expert with over 12 years of professional experience in Information Technology, with a deep focus on backend architecture and API development. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust, scalable microservices-based applications that power critical business functions. This is a hybrid role requiring local candidates who can commute to the Houston office as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of high-performance backend services using Java and the Spring Boot framework.
- Develop and maintain complex microservices architectures, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
- Utilize Apache Kafka for real-time data streaming and event-driven communication between services.
- Collaborate with frontend teams to integrate Angular-based user interfaces with backend APIs, ensuring seamless end-to-end functionality.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while adhering to industry best practices and coding standards.
- Participate in all phases of the Agile software development lifecycle, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Perform rigorous unit testing and integration testing to ensure the quality and reliability of the software.
- Optimize application performance and troubleshoot complex technical issues in production and non-production environments.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance on backend development best practices.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in the Java ecosystem and propose innovative solutions to improve the system architecture.
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of 12 years of overall IT experience with a strong emphasis on backend development.
- At least 7 years of hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices.
- Mandatory proficiency in Angular for full-stack collaboration and integration.
- Extensive experience with messaging tools, specifically Apache Kafka, for building event-driven systems.
- Proven track record of developing and deploying RESTful APIs and web services.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working in fast-paced Agile teams.
- Expertise in database management systems, both SQL and NoSQL.
- Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a complex technical environment.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $115,000 – $145,000 per year
