Performance Tester – Remote Opportunity
The Performance Tester role is a critical technical position focused on ensuring that our enterprise applications meet the highest standards of performance, scalability, and reliability. As a Performance Tester, you will be at the forefront of identifying potential system bottlenecks before they impact our end-users. This role is based in Tampa, FL, but offers the flexibility of a fully remote work environment, allowing you to collaborate with diverse teams across the country. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end performance testing lifecycle, from requirement gathering and test planning to execution and detailed analysis.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Duties
- Performance Strategy and Planning: You will be responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive performance test strategies. This includes defining performance requirements, identifying key business processes for testing, and creating detailed test plans that align with project goals. You will work closely with stakeholders to establish performance benchmarks and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Scripting and Execution: Utilizing industry-standard tools like LoadRunner and Apache JMeter, you will develop sophisticated test scripts. For LoadRunner, you will demonstrate mastery of VuGen for various protocols, including Web (HTTP/HTML), Web Services, and API. You will also be proficient in JMeter for testing RESTful and SOAP-based services, ensuring that all scripts are robust and maintainable.
- Load Testing and Analysis: You will configure and execute various types of performance tests, including load, stress, endurance, and spike tests. Using LoadRunner Controller and Analysis tools, you will interpret complex data sets to identify performance trends, response time issues, and throughput constraints.
- Monitoring and Diagnostics: A significant part of this role involves real-time monitoring of system health. You will leverage APM tools such as AppDynamics, Dynatrace, and Grafana to track CPU usage, memory consumption, and network latency during test execution. You will perform deep-dive diagnostics to pinpoint the root cause of performance degradation.
- Backend Validation: You will use SQL to perform backend validation, ensuring that database performance is optimized and that data integrity is maintained under high load conditions. This includes identifying slow-running queries and suggesting indexing or tuning improvements.
- Collaboration and Reporting: Working within an Agile/Scrum framework, you will collaborate closely with developers, architects, and product owners. You will provide detailed performance reports and actionable recommendations for system tuning and optimization. You will participate in daily stand-ups and sprint reviews to communicate performance risks.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven hands-on experience with LoadRunner (VuGen, Controller, Analysis) and Apache JMeter.
- Strong understanding of web technologies, including HTTP/HTTPS, REST, SOAP, and microservices architecture.
- Experience with performance monitoring and diagnostics tools (AppDynamics, Dynatrace, etc.).
- Proficiency in SQL for database troubleshooting and validation.
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and basic shell scripting.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement in the performance testing lifecycle.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $41 – $51 per year
