Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mainframe IMS Administrator to join our dynamic IT infrastructure team in Atlanta, GA. This role is critical for maintaining the stability, performance, and security of our enterprise-level database environments. With a focus on IBM zOS platforms, the successful candidate will manage complex database systems including IMS DBDC, DB2, and ADABAS. This position requires a deep technical understanding of mainframe architectures and the ability to provide high-level support for mission-critical applications. The administrator will be responsible for ensuring that the database infrastructure supports the evolving needs of the business while maintaining the highest standards of data integrity and availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain IBM DB2 and IMS DBDC databases on zOS mainframe platforms to ensure 24/7 availability.
  • Perform database partitioning, indexing, and data sharing to optimize performance and scalability across the enterprise.
  • Utilize IBM InfoSphere Data Replication (IIDR) suite for real-time data synchronization and replication across diverse environments.
  • Manage ADABAS database environments, ensuring data integrity and efficient access patterns for legacy and modern applications.
  • Implement and manage zConnect Enterprise Edition (zCEE) API frameworks to enable seamless integration between mainframe assets and modern web services.
  • Develop and maintain complex Job Control Language (JCL) scripts for batch processing, system maintenance, and automated reporting.
  • Conduct performance tuning and SQL optimization to improve application response times and reduce overall CPU consumption.
  • Execute database backups, recovery procedures, and lead disaster recovery planning and testing to mitigate business risk.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database-related incidents, providing root cause analysis and long-term remediation strategies.
  • Collaborate with application developers to design efficient database schemas and access paths that align with best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with data security best practices and industry regulations through rigorous auditing and access control.
  • Manage software upgrades and patches in coordination with external vendors and internal stakeholders to keep systems current.

Technical Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in Mainframe Database Administration within a large-scale environment.
  • Expertise in IBM DB2 for zOS, including data sharing, system administration, and utility management.
  • Strong proficiency in IMS DBDC and ADABAS administration and performance monitoring.
  • Experience with replication tools like IIDR or similar Change Data Capture (CDC) technologies.
  • Solid understanding of zOS operating system concepts, storage management, and JCL.
  • Knowledge of zConnect (zCEE) for API enablement and mainframe modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with mainframe monitoring tools and performance analyzers such as Omegamon or Mainview.

Education and Professional Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., IBM Certified System Administrator – DB2) are highly preferred.
  • Proven track record of working in large-scale enterprise environments with strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $135,000 – $178,000 per year (Estimated)
