Position Summary: Wireless RAN 5G RF Engineer
Pacer Staffing is currently seeking an expert Wireless RAN 5G RF Engineer for a critical 6-month contract onsite in Temple Terrace, Florida. This role is designed for a high-level engineering professional capable of leading RF design, optimization, and deployment for next-generation 5G Radio Access Networks (RAN). As the telecommunications industry moves toward 3GPP Release 17 and 18 standards in 2026, this position will be at the center of mmWave and Sub-6 GHz network evolution.
Core Technical Responsibilities
- Lead RF design and optimization for 5G NR and LTE anchor bands using industry-standard propagation tools such as Atoll and Planet.
- Perform detailed link budget analysis and capacity planning to optimize site placement and hardware configurations.
- Design and manage key RF parameters including frequency plans, scrambling codes, PCI planning, and neighbor relations.
- Develop comprehensive RF solutions for both indoor (DAS/Small Cells) and outdoor macro coverage environments.
- Utilize simulation and modeling tools including MATLAB, Simulink, HFSS, and ADS to predict network performance.
- Conduct hands-on drive testing and data collection using TEMS Investigation, Nemo Outdoor, PCTEL, and XCAL.
- Execute post-processing analysis using TEMS Discovery, Actix, Windcatcher, and XCAP to identify coverage gaps and interference.
- Monitor 5G/LTE KPIs such as RSRP, SINR, throughput, latency, and drop call rates to maintain peak network performance.
- Optimize advanced 5G features including Massive MIMO, beamforming, carrier aggregation, and dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS).
- Troubleshoot complex L1/L3 signaling issues using call traces and log analysis.
Required Skills and Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of hands-on RF engineering experience with a specific focus on RAN. Direct experience with 5G NR deployment or trials is mandatory. A deep understanding of 5G technologies, including SA/NSA architectures, mmWave, and O-RAN, is required. Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python and SQL is highly valued, as is the ability to generate KPI visualizations using Tableau or Power BI. Experience with Open RAN (vRAN) and MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing) concepts will be considered a significant advantage.
Education and Certifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related discipline.
- Vendor certifications from major providers such as Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, or Huawei are strongly preferred.
- Solid knowledge of LTE/VoLTE and 5G interoperability (EN-DC) is essential.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $130,000 – $175,000 per year
