Position Summary

We are looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to serve as the technical expert for our Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) infrastructure in Los Angeles, California. This is a critical onsite role responsible for managing the full IT stack that supports 24/7 manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will oversee everything from physical Cisco UCS hardware and VMware virtualization to core Active Directory services and Citrix application delivery, with a heavy emphasis on backup and disaster recovery in a regulated environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise-grade backup and recovery systems to protect physical and virtual servers within the MES environment.
  • Develop and update disaster recovery strategies to ensure that critical manufacturing systems meet Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
  • Enforce strict data integrity, retention, and audit requirements in compliance with GxP and other lifesciences regulatory standards.
  • Build and support highly available virtual infrastructure using VMware vSphere and Cisco UCS to ensure maximum performance and scalability.
  • Administer core Windows Server services, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP, to maintain a secure manufacturing IT landscape.
  • Manage Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environments to deliver MES applications securely to plant-floor and remote users.
  • Provide Tier 3 infrastructure support for MES platforms, collaborating with vendors and internal teams to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Ensure all system changes follow formal change control processes and maintain comprehensive documentation, including DR plans and SOPs.

Required Technical Expertise

Candidates must have at least 5 years of experience in systems administration specifically within a production or manufacturing environment. A background in the Lifesciences or Biosciences industry (e.g., experience with clients like Amgen) is mandatory. Technical proficiency must include advanced experience with enterprise backup platforms such as Veeam and Dell EMC Avamar, as well as storage management across SAN/NAS systems like Tintri and HPE. Deep expertise in VMware (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter) and Cisco UCS management is required. Additionally, a solid understanding of Cisco networking (Layer 2/3, VLANs, Wireless) is necessary to support the interconnected manufacturing environment.

Qualifications and Skills

A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position. We are looking for a highly analytical individual with strong problem-solving abilities and clear communication skills. You must be detail-oriented and proactive in ensuring system stability and data protection. This role also involves leading projects and mentoring junior team members, so leadership qualities are highly valued. This is a long-term contract opportunity requiring local candidates who can work onsite in Los Angeles.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $140,000 – $185,000 per year (Estimated)
