Role Overview: Mainframe Database Administrator
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mainframe Database Administrator (DBA) to join our enterprise infrastructure team in Atlanta, GA. As we move into 2026, the complexity of mainframe environments continues to evolve, requiring professionals who can bridge the gap between legacy stability and modern data demands. This role is critical for ensuring the high availability, integrity, and performance of our DB2 for z/OS environments, which serve as the backbone for our mission-critical financial and operational applications.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Duties
- Database Administration: Perform comprehensive administration of DB2 for z/OS, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of database objects.
- Performance Tuning: Monitor system performance and execute complex SQL tuning, buffer pool optimization, and subsystem parameter adjustments to ensure sub-second response times for high-volume transactions.
- Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement robust disaster recovery strategies. Manage image copies, recovery logs, and perform point-in-time recoveries using standard IBM utilities and third-party tools.
- Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Utilize advanced monitoring tools to proactively identify bottlenecks. Provide 24/7 support for production incidents, performing deep-dive root cause analysis (RCA) for database-related failures.
- Security and Compliance: Implement data security protocols, managing user permissions and ensuring compliance with enterprise data governance standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with systems programmers, application developers, and storage administrators to align database architecture with infrastructure capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in Mainframe Database Administration specifically within the z/OS environment.
- Expert-level proficiency in DB2 for z/OS and related utility suites.
- Strong command of SQL and the ability to optimize complex queries for enterprise-scale datasets.
- Proven track record in managing large-scale database migrations and version upgrades.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Salary: $135,000 – $175,000 per year (Estimated)
