Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Wireless RAN 5G RF Engineer to join our engineering team in Temple Terrace, Florida. This role is critical for the design, optimization, and successful deployment of our 5G Radio Access Network (RAN). As the telecommunications landscape evolves toward 2026, the complexity of 5G NR (New Radio) requires an expert who can navigate the intricacies of both Sub-6 GHz and mmWave spectrums. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-performance connectivity, minimizing interference, and maximizing capacity for our growing subscriber base.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Duties
- Lead comprehensive RF design, optimization, and deployment strategies specifically tailored for 5G Radio Access Networks (RAN).
- Perform detailed RF site planning and design for 5G NR and LTE anchor bands using industry-standard propagation tools such as Atoll and Planet.
- Conduct rigorous link budget analysis and capacity planning to determine ideal site placement and hardware configurations for optimal coverage.
- Design and manage key RF parameters including frequency plans, scrambling codes, PCI planning, and neighbor relations to ensure seamless handovers.
- Develop innovative RF solutions for both indoor environments (DAS/Small Cells) and outdoor macro coverage areas.
- Utilize simulation and modeling tools including MATLAB, Simulink, HFSS, and ADS to predict network behavior and performance.
- Execute hands-on drive testing and data collection using professional tools such as TEMS Investigation, Nemo Outdoor, PCTEL, and XCAL.
- Perform advanced post-processing of network data using TEMS Discovery, Actix, Windcatcher, and XCAP to identify systemic issues.
- Maintain hardware proficiency with spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and Site Master tools for physical layer troubleshooting.
- Apply deep understanding of 5G technologies including 5G NR (SA/NSA), mmWave, Sub-6 GHz, Massive MIMO, Beamforming, and ORAN.
- Implement scripting and automation workflows using Python and SQL to streamline data analysis and reporting.
- Generate high-level KPI visualizations using Tableau or Power BI for executive reporting and technical reviews.
- Monitor critical 5G/LTE KPIs such as RSRP, SINR, throughput, latency, and drop call rates to proactively identify performance degradation.
- Implement RF optimization adjustments including antenna tilt, azimuth, and power tuning based on real-world performance data.
- Optimize advanced 5G features such as Massive MIMO, beamforming, carrier aggregation, and dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS).
- Analyze drive test data to detect coverage gaps, interference patterns, and pilot pollution in complex urban environments.
- Collaborate closely with field teams to ensure site builds match RF design specifications regarding antenna height, orientation, and cabling.
- Troubleshoot complex L1/L3 signaling issues using logs, call traces, and detailed protocol analysis.
- Manage interference mitigation strategies, including PIM (Passive Intermodulation) and frequency interference resolution.
Professional Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical discipline. We require a minimum of 5 years of hands-on RF engineering experience with a specific focus on RAN technologies. Direct experience with 5G NR deployment or trials is essential. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of 3GPP Release 15, 16, and 17 standards and 5G air-interface protocols. Solid knowledge of LTE/VoLTE and 5G interoperability (ENDC) is required. Experience with Open RAN (O-RAN) and vRAN concepts is highly desirable. Vendor certifications from Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, or Huawei are preferred. Familiarity with Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) and cloud-native RAN concepts will be considered a significant bonus. We are looking for individuals with strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret large RF datasets to drive network excellence.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $135,000 – $178,000 per year (Estimated)
