Role Overview: Senior Android Engineer (Telephony & Carrier Apps)
S3 Staffing USA is seeking a highly experienced Senior Android Engineer to join a mission-critical project located in either Overland Park, Kansas, or Englewood, Colorado. This contract role is designed for a technical leader who possesses deep expertise in the Android ecosystem, specifically focusing on telephony stacks and carrier-grade applications. As mobile technology evolves toward 2026 standards, including advanced 5G integration and enhanced privacy frameworks, this role will be pivotal in ensuring application stability and performance across a diverse range of OEM devices.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of core Android application features with a specific focus on telephony and carrier-specific use cases.
- Take full ownership of the end-to-end application delivery lifecycle, from initial requirement gathering through to testing, release, and post-launch support.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues reported by OEMs, field defects, and blockers identified during carrier certification processes.
- Ensure continuous compatibility with the latest Android OS releases, managing SDK migrations and adapting to platform behavior changes.
- Collaborate extensively with OEM partners, platform engineering teams, and QA departments to maintain a high bar for release quality.
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Android Telephony APIs, system-level behaviors, and specific carrier requirements.
- Mentor junior developers and establish best practices for Android development, focusing on performance optimization and system stability.
Technical Requirements
- 8-10+ years of hands-on experience in professional Android application development.
- Profound understanding of Android OS internals, including the application lifecycle, permission models, and background execution constraints.
- Proven track record of supporting large-scale applications across multiple Android versions and device types.
- Direct experience working with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and carrier partners to resolve device-specific or platform-level bugs.
- Expert-level debugging skills across the application layer, framework layer, and device-level logs.
- Advanced proficiency in Kotlin and Java, with a strong grasp of modern Android architectural patterns (MVVM, MVI).

Compensation & Location
Salary: $155,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)
