Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Node.js Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. This role is critical for our backend development initiatives, focusing on building scalable, high-performance APIs and microservices. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of knowledge in modern JavaScript and TypeScript, coupled with a deep understanding of backend architecture. This position is based in Rockville, MD, or Tysons Corner, VA, and requires an onsite or hybrid presence to foster collaboration and innovation within our technical squads.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Architect and implement scalable microservices that support high-traffic applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define API specifications and integration points.
- Drive the adoption of SDLC 2.0 practices, emphasizing a quality-first mindset throughout the development lifecycle.
- Implement shift-left testing strategies to identify and resolve issues early in the process.
- Contribute to the automation of CI/CD pipelines to ensure seamless and secure deployments.
- Optimize application performance and troubleshoot complex technical challenges.
- Ensure secure coding practices are followed, utilizing OAuth, JWT, and other security protocols.
- Mentor junior engineers and participate in code reviews to maintain high standards of code quality.
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in backend software development.
- Expert-level proficiency in Node.js and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
- Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript for building type-safe applications.
- In-depth knowledge of Express.js or similar Node.js frameworks.
- Proven track record of designing and implementing RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Experience working with various database systems, including MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
- Proficiency in unit testing frameworks such as Mocha, Jest, or Chai.
- Familiarity with integration and API testing tools to ensure system reliability.
- Solid understanding of Git version control and collaborative development workflows.
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools is a plus.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $145,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)
