Overview:

The Automation QA Lead is a pivotal role responsible for spearheading the automated testing strategy across a diverse landscape of manufacturing systems and critical enterprise applications. This leadership position demands a seasoned professional who can not only define and implement robust automation frameworks but also ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and scalable software solutions. These solutions are fundamental to supporting seamless production operations, optimizing supply chain efficiencies, managing ERP systems, enhancing Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), and facilitating complex plant floor integrations. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of deep automation engineering expertise coupled with proven leadership experience within intricate manufacturing environments. This role is crucial for driving digital transformation initiatives and maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategy:

    • Lead, mentor, and inspire a dedicated team of QA analysts and automation engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
    • Define, develop, and meticulously execute the overarching enterprise test automation strategy, aligning it with business objectives and technological advancements.
    • Establish and enforce comprehensive QA standards, best practices, and robust governance frameworks to ensure consistency and quality across all projects.
    • Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams including IT, engineering, operations, and various business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within all QA processes, leveraging metrics and feedback to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Automation & Testing:

    • Design, develop, and meticulously maintain advanced automated test frameworks for various layers, including User Interface (UI), Application Programming Interface (API), database interactions, and complex system integrations.
    • Implement seamless CI/CD-integrated test automation pipelines, ensuring rapid feedback loops and efficient deployment cycles.
    • Guarantee comprehensive regression, performance, and system integration testing coverage for all critical applications.
    • Rigorously validate integrations between core enterprise systems such as ERP, MES, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and various shop floor systems.
    • Lead all phases of test planning, meticulous test case design, and efficient defect management activities from identification to resolution.
  • Manufacturing Systems Support:

    • Provide expert validation and quality assurance for critical Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), ensuring their optimal performance and reliability.
    • Support and validate major ERP systems, including industry leaders like SAP and Oracle, ensuring data integrity and functional accuracy.
    • Oversee the quality assurance of supply chain and warehouse management systems, contributing to streamlined logistics and inventory control.
    • Validate PLC/SCADA system integrations where applicable, ensuring robust communication and control on the plant floor.
    • Ensure strict compliance with relevant industry standards and quality requirements, such as ISO and GMP.
    • Actively participate in significant system upgrades, plant rollouts, and strategic digital transformation initiatives, providing QA leadership and expertise.
  • Quality & Compliance:

    • Ensure unwavering adherence to international standards like ISO, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) if applicable, and other pertinent regulatory standards.
    • Drive thorough root cause analysis for identified defects and implement proactive defect prevention practices.
    • Develop and maintain insightful QA metrics and reporting dashboards, providing clear visibility into quality status for leadership and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in Quality Assurance, with at least 3 years specifically focused on test automation.
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated leadership or team lead experience, managing and mentoring QA professionals.
  • Proven experience working within manufacturing or industrial environments, understanding the unique challenges and requirements.
  • Strong hands-on experience with leading test automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or similar frameworks.
  • Proficiency in API automation using tools like Postman, RestAssured, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools, including Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions, for integrating automation into development pipelines.
  • Solid understanding and practical experience with SQL and database validation techniques.
  • Direct experience testing and validating ERP/MES systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with specific manufacturing ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, or Plex.
  • Knowledge and experience with PLC/SCADA integration testing.
  • Familiarity with IoT and Industry 4.0 environments and related testing challenges.
  • Performance testing experience using tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner.
  • Agile/Scrum certification.
  • ISTQB certification.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $130,000 – $170,000 per year (Estimated)
