About the Role:

The client is seeking a Lead Data Engineer / Data Platform Lead to architect, guide, and execute the modernization of their data platform. This is a hands-on role requiring ownership of the data architecture and implementation. The current data strategy is a lift-and-shift approach, and the goal is to move away from this towards a re-architected solution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of the data architecture and provide guidance on overall implementation.
  • Actively execute and drive the modernization of the data platform.
  • Lead and mentor data engineering teams (formal or informal).
  • Transition the data platform from a lift-and-shift approach to a redesigned, modern architecture.
  • Integrate and manage tools such as Databricks, C-Data, and SSIS within the modern data stack.
  • Oversee the re-architecture of extensive Tableau reporting to Power BI.
  • Manage data pipelines and move them into Snowflake.
  • Ensure data quality and minimal disruption during large-scale data remodeling for complex sources.

Current Technology Stack:

  • ETL/Integration: Databricks, C-Data, SSIS
  • Data Sources: TriZetto Facets (membership, clinical, financial, Medicaid/Medicare data)
  • Reporting: Extensive Tableau, migrating to Power BI
  • Data Warehouse: Moving to Snowflake

Required Qualifications:

  • 8-12+ years in data engineering or data platform roles.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Snowflake (architecture, performance tuning, data modeling).
  • Experience with Power BI (semantic models, reporting, governance).
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring teams.
  • Experience modernizing or scaling a data platform, including transitioning from lift-and-shift approaches.
  • Experience integrating Databricks, C-Data, SSIS, and other ETL tools into a modern data stack.
  • Exposure to healthcare or financial data sources (TriZetto Facets, membership, clinical, financial, Medicaid/Medicare).
  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder.

Screening Questions:

Candidates must answer these questions in DETAIL – WHERE/WHEN/HOW:

  • Can you describe a project where you transitioned a system from a lift-and-shift approach to a redesigned architecture, and what specific steps you took to modernize the data pipelines?
  • How have you implemented or planned Snowflake in a production environment, particularly for healthcare or membership/clinical/financial data?
  • What is your experience with re-architecting Tableau reports to Power BI, and how did you handle data modeling changes in the process?
  • Can you walk us through how you’ve integrated tools like Databricks, C-Data, and SSIS to consolidate, transform, and deliver data for analytics?
  • How do you approach large-scale data remodeling for complex sources like TriZetto Facets, including membership, clinical, and financial datasets, while ensuring data quality and minimal disruption?

Special Requirements

USC/GC required. Remote. Candidates must answer detailed screening questions regarding architecture modernization, Snowflake implementation, Power BI re-architecture, ETL tool integration, and data remodeling for complex healthcare data.
