Job Overview

Seeking an experienced Database Architect skilled in AWS data platforms, Snowflake, SQL development, and automation/scripting. This role requires on-site work 5 days per week in Woodlawn, MD.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize AWS database and data processing services including RDS, AuroraDB, DynamoDB, Redshift, ElastiCache, EMR, and Neptune.
  • Configure, launch, and manage EMR clusters for performance and cost optimization.
  • Architect scalable, high-performance, secure database solutions.
  • Integrate databases with AWS services such as Lambda, S3, EC2, and Glue.
  • Implement AWS security best practices: IAM, encryption, VPC, security groups, compliance.
  • Design backup, disaster recovery, high availability, and failover solutions (Multi-AZ, read replicas).
  • Troubleshoot AWS-related issues and incidents.
  • Design, implement, and manage Snowflake virtual data warehouses.
  • Write complex SQL queries for analytics, transformation, and reporting.
  • Optimize queries, caching, clustering, and auto-scaling.
  • Ensure compliance with SSA security, privacy, and data management policies.
  • Brief management, customers, and vendors at appropriate technical levels.
  • Provide guidance to junior and mid-level developers.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field (Masters/Doctorate may substitute for experience).
  • 7+ years as a Database Architect.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services: RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, ElastiCache, EMR, Neptune.
  • Strong understanding of AWS security best practices.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills for AWS issues.
  • Skilled in query optimization, indexing, caching, clustering, and auto-scaling.
  • Proficient with automation/scripting: CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS CLI, Python, Bash, PowerShell.
  • Skilled in relational and NoSQL database management, modeling, normalization, schema design.
  • Experienced with EMR cluster setup, scaling, and data integration.
  • Skilled in DR/HA solutions (Multi-AZ, read replicas).
  • Advanced SQL for analytics and ETL workloads.

AWS Expertise

  • Ability to architect scalable, secure, high-performance AWS database solutions.
  • Experience integrating AWS databases with Lambda, S3, EC2, Glue.
  • Strong security experience: IAM roles, encryption, monitoring (CloudWatch, CloudTrail).

Snowflake Expertise

  • Experience designing and managing Snowflake warehouses and micro-partition structures.
  • Skilled in schema design and efficient Snowflake data structures.
  • Experience with Snowflake ingestion, transformations, and integrations.
  • Knowledgeable in Snowflake RBAC, encryption, and security best practices.
  • Integrations with Tableau, Power BI, and Python-based pipelines or ML workflows.

Interview: Skype. Location: Woodlawn, MD (onsite 5 days/week). Domain: SSA security, privacy, and data management policies.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $120 – $160 per year (Estimated)

Location: Baltimore, MD
