Job ID: JOB_ID_357
Role Overview
The AWS Application Architect – Microservices is a pivotal role within our engineering organization, focusing on the design, development, and deployment of highly scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-native applications. This is a hands-on contract position where you will be expected to lead by example, writing high-quality code while providing architectural guidance for complex microservices ecosystems. As we move into 2026, the demand for robust cloud infrastructure integrated with modern JavaScript frameworks has never been higher, and this role sits at the intersection of innovation and execution. You will be responsible for translating business requirements into technical specifications and ensuring that the final product meets the highest standards of performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement end-to-end microservices architectures using NodeJS and modern frameworks like Fastify or NestJS.
- Design and manage containerized applications using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) to ensure high availability and scalability.
- Develop and maintain serverless and container-based cloud solutions on AWS, leveraging services such as Lambda, S3, RDS, and DynamoDB.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define API contracts and ensure seamless integration between front-end and back-end systems.
- Perform hands-on coding, code reviews, and mentoring of junior developers to maintain high standards of software craftsmanship.
- Optimize application performance and troubleshoot complex production issues in a distributed environment.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines to automate the deployment process and ensure rapid, reliable delivery of software updates.
- Ensure all architectural designs adhere to security best practices and compliance requirements.
Technical Requirements
- Extensive experience in backend development using NodeJS, with a deep understanding of asynchronous programming and event-driven architecture.
- Proven expertise in building microservices with Fastify or NestJS, focusing on performance and modularity.
- Advanced knowledge of AWS Cloud services, specifically EKS, IAM, VPC, and CloudWatch.
- Strong experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- Proficiency in database design and management, including both SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB/DynamoDB) solutions.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design and GraphQL.
- Experience with message brokers like RabbitMQ or Amazon SQS/SNS.
Architectural Vision and Strategy
In the evolving landscape of 2026, an AWS Application Architect must look beyond simple deployment. You will be responsible for defining the long-term technical roadmap for microservices, ensuring that the architecture can support rapid scaling and integration with emerging AI and machine learning services. This involves evaluating third-party tools, managing technical debt, and ensuring that the system remains cost-effective under heavy loads. Your role is to bridge the gap between business requirements and technical implementation, ensuring that every line of code contributes to a robust and future-proof ecosystem.
Security and Compliance
Security is not an afterthought in our development lifecycle. You will be expected to implement ‘Security as Code’ principles, integrating automated security scanning into the CI/CD pipeline. This includes managing secrets via AWS Secrets Manager, implementing fine-grained access control with IAM, and ensuring data encryption at rest and in transit. Your expertise in EKS security, including pod security policies and network policies, will be critical in protecting our client’s sensitive data and maintaining trust.
Work Environment and Culture
This role is 100% remote, offering the flexibility to work from your preferred location within the United States. However, because our primary client base is located on the West Coast, we have a strong preference for candidates who can align their working hours with PST or CST. We value transparency, technical excellence, and a collaborative spirit. As a contract architect, you will have the opportunity to influence the technical direction of high-impact projects while working with a team of dedicated professionals.
Special Requirements
Client round – Yes. Remote (client is based in west coast, will prefer candidates in PST / CST). Hands-on coding required.
