We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our technical team in Peoria, IL, working with our prestigious client, L&T Technology Services (LTTS). This role is pivotal in the development of next-generation electric vehicle (EV) technologies, specifically focusing on off-highway applications. As the automotive and industrial sectors pivot toward electrification, your expertise in power electronics and motor-drive systems will be essential in shaping the future of sustainable transportation and heavy machinery.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Scope
- Conduct comprehensive assessment and analysis of various powertrain architectures tailored for off-highway electric vehicles, ensuring optimal performance in rugged environments.
- Perform extensive research and surveys of available power electronic converters, evaluating topologies, modulation techniques, and both active and passive components.
- Identify and document the pros and cons of candidate powertrain architectures, managing the complex tradeoffs between power density, efficiency, and thermal management.
- Develop sophisticated electric and loss-thermal models for medium-voltage (100V to several kV) and high-power (100kW to several MW) converters.
- Utilize advanced simulation tools like Simulink to design and validate bidirectional DC-DC converters, inverters, and battery charging systems.
- Lead deep-dive analytical studies based on underlying physics principles, mathematical derivations, and circuit theory to optimize converter performance.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and participate in internal and customer-facing technical meetings to present findings and recommendations.
- Stay at the forefront of the industry by monitoring the latest research publications and technological advancements in power electronics and motor-drives.
Qualifications and Professional Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution is required; a Master’s or PhD with a focus on Power Electronics is highly preferred.
- Proven experience in medium/high voltage power electronics, specifically with bidirectional converters or energy storage systems (batteries/fuel cells).
- Strong foundational knowledge of magnetics, continuous-domain, and discrete-domain control theory.
- Proficiency in model-based simulation environments, particularly MATLAB/Simulink, for control design and system analysis.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business insights for stakeholders.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge electrification projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will be part of a team that values innovation, technical excellence, and the pursuit of sustainable engineering solutions. If you are passionate about power electronics and want to make a significant impact on the EV landscape, we encourage you to apply.
