Role Summary: Lead AWS Cloud Engineer
We are looking for a Lead AWS Cloud Engineer to spearhead our cloud modernization and automation initiatives. This hybrid role, based in Newark, NJ, is designed for a seasoned professional who can architect complex solutions, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate across various departments to optimize cloud application deployments. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating advanced automation using the latest DevOps tools and services to significantly reduce manual tasks and accelerate our speed to market. You will also be expected to establish and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that align with industry best practices and organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- AWS Solution Design: Lead the design and implementation of advanced AWS solutions, ensuring they are scalable, resilient, and cost-effective.
- Automation Leadership: Champion the use of automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to streamline operations and eliminate manual bottlenecks.
- CI/CD Optimization: Drive continuous improvements in CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native application delivery processes.
- Monitoring and Reliability: Establish robust monitoring, logging, and alerting best practices to ensure high availability and system reliability.
- Governance and Security: Collaborate with security and compliance teams to enforce strict governance policies across the cloud environment.
- Mentorship: Act as a mentor to Cloud Engineers, guiding their technical growth and ensuring the adoption of best practices.
- FinOps: Develop and implement FinOps practices focused on standardization, cost optimization, and show-back models.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the SME for AWS, providing strategic guidance to stakeholders and acting as a point of escalation for complex technical issues.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: 15+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 7+ years specifically focused on AWS cloud engineering.
- Technical Proficiency: Solid hands-on experience with AWS compute, storage, backup, networking, IAM, security, Control Tower, and AWS Organizations.
- IaC Expertise: Strong proficiency in Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
- Containerization: Experience with Kubernetes (EKS) and container orchestration is essential.
- DevOps Tools: Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automation tools, preferably Jenkins and Bitbucket.
- Observability: Experience with tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Datadog.
- Certifications: AWS Professional certification is required. GCP or Azure certifications are considered a plus.
- Networking Fundamentals: Deep understanding of AWS Direct Connect, PrivateLink, VPN, VPCs, routing, and load balancing.
- Security Tools: Working knowledge of security tools like CrowdStrike, CASB, Rapid7, CyberArk, and MFA solutions.
Professional Abilities
- Ability to lead large-scale projects and anticipate technical risks and dependencies.
- Strong influence on architecture and design decisions backed by technical rationale.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as HIPAA and SOC 2.
- Awareness of advanced AWS services like Lambda, API Gateway, and Kinesis.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $170,000 – $230,000 per year (Estimated)
