Role Overview: Senior Mainframe Developer
We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe Developer for a critical onsite position in Wilmington, Delaware. This role requires a seasoned professional with over 12 years of hands-on experience in the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale mainframe applications. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for driving technical excellence within a high-stakes financial services environment, ensuring the stability and scalability of core business systems.
Technical Requirements and Core Responsibilities
- COBOL Expertise: Extensive experience modifying existing programs to handle complex new business logic and creating robust new programs for data validation and processing.
- Database Management: Proficiency in DB2, including creating new programs to validate data and retrieving complex datasets from existing tables to support business intelligence.
- File Systems: Advanced knowledge of VSAM, specifically in creating and managing new VSAM files to store critical data as part of evolving business requirements.
- IMS DB Specialization: Deep expertise in IMS DB is mandatory for this role, involving the management of hierarchical databases and ensuring high performance.
- Agile Methodology: Proven experience working within an Agile process, participating in sprints, stand-ups, and collaborative planning sessions.
Detailed Job Functions
The successful candidate will be tasked with the end-to-end lifecycle of mainframe application development. This includes initial requirement analysis, architectural design, coding in COBOL, and rigorous testing within the DB2 and IMS environments. Given the 12-year experience requirement, we expect a developer who can mentor junior staff and provide strategic insights into legacy system modernization. Wilmington is a major hub for the banking and credit card industries; therefore, experience with financial transaction processing or high-volume data environments is highly preferred. You will be expected to optimize existing code for performance, troubleshoot production issues in real-time, and ensure that all developments meet strict security and compliance standards. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to translate complex business needs into efficient technical solutions. Your work with VSAM and IMS DB will be pivotal in maintaining the integrity of our data storage layers, while your DB2 skills will facilitate seamless data integration across the enterprise.
