Role Overview: Mainframe IMS & CICS Developer
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mainframe IMS & CICS Developer to join our enterprise application support team in Wilmington, DE. This critical role involves supporting high-volume financial applications for JPMorgan Chase through our partnership with Mphasis. As a senior member of the development team, you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of mainframe applications, ensuring high availability, performance, and security for mission-critical banking systems. This position requires a deep technical understanding of legacy systems combined with the ability to adapt to modern enterprise standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain complex mainframe applications using COBOL, IMS/DB, and CICS to meet evolving business requirements.
- Manage and optimize IMS database structures and transaction processing systems (IMS/DC) to ensure efficient data handling and system performance.
- Develop, test, and implement batch processing jobs using JCL, ensuring seamless integration with existing production schedules.
- Analyze intricate business requirements and translate them into robust technical specifications and scalable solutions.
- Perform rigorous debugging, performance tuning, and production support to maintain 99.9% system uptime for financial services.
- Participate in comprehensive code reviews and mentor junior developers to ensure strict adherence to organizational coding standards and best practices.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Business Analysts, Quality Assurance, and Production Support, to deliver high-quality software releases.
- Assist with mainframe system administration tasks, including dataset management and security configuration within the IBM z/OS environment.
- Ensure all application development complies with enterprise security standards and regulatory requirements for the financial industry.
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of 8+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe application development.
- Expert-level proficiency in COBOL programming within an IBM z/OS environment.
- Extensive experience with IMS/DB and IMS/DC (Transaction Manager) concepts and implementation.
- Strong hands-on expertise with CICS (Customer Information Control System) and related APIs for online transaction processing.
- Advanced knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language) for managing complex batch processing workflows.
- Solid understanding of IBM z/OS operating system utilities and dataset management (VSAM, GDGs, etc.).
- Proven track record in troubleshooting and resolving complex production issues in a high-pressure environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Work Environment and Engagement
This is a 100% onsite position located in Wilmington, Delaware. Candidates must be willing to work in the office 5 days per week to facilitate close collaboration with the local engineering teams. We offer flexible engagement models, including C2C (Corp-to-Corp) or FTE (Full-Time Employment), depending on candidate preference and eligibility. Compensation & Location
Salary: $140,000 – $185,000 per year (Estimated)
