Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced MSSQL Database Administrator to join our enterprise infrastructure team in Minneapolis, MN. This is a critical onsite position requiring a professional who can manage complex database environments with a primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server, while also providing secondary support for Oracle and PostgreSQL systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and security of our data assets across multiple platforms, including on-premises and cloud-based Azure environments.
Primary Responsibilities: SQL Server Administration (70%)
- Installation & Configuration: Expertly install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances across versions 2016, 2019, and 2022. This includes managing deployments on both Windows and Linux platforms to ensure cross-platform compatibility and performance.
- Cloud Integration: Configure and manage SQL Server resources within Azure, including Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and SQL VMs, ensuring seamless hybrid connectivity.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Design and implement robust HA/DR solutions using Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), database mirroring, and log shipping. Conduct regular failover testing to meet RTO/RPO requirements.
- Performance Tuning: Proactively monitor system health using DMVs, Extended Events, and Query Store. Optimize query execution plans, index strategies, and tempdb configurations to maintain peak performance.
- Backup & Recovery: Implement comprehensive backup strategies including full, differential, and transaction log backups with mandatory encryption and compression.
Secondary Database Support (30%)
- Oracle Administration (20%): Manage Oracle 11g, 12c, and 19c instances. Perform essential tasks such as user management, tablespace maintenance, patching, and minor upgrades. Assist in complex migrations from Oracle to SQL Server.
- PostgreSQL Administration (10%): Deploy and maintain PostgreSQL 12+ environments. Configure replication for high availability and manage backup/recovery operations using pg_dump and pg_basebackup.
Automation, BI, and Collaboration
- Scripting: Develop advanced T-SQL and PowerShell scripts to automate routine administrative tasks, database deployments, and system refreshes.
- BI Support: Manage and troubleshoot SSIS packages, SSRS report servers, and SSAS tabular/multidimensional models to support business intelligence initiatives.
- Team Integration: Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation. Collaborate with development teams on database design and work closely with infrastructure teams on server provisioning and capacity planning.
Special Requirements
Onsite requirement in Minneapolis; 24/7 on-call rotation; Multi-database domain (MSSQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
Compensation & Location
Salary: $135,000 – $175,000 per year (Estimated)
