Role Overview: Senior Network & Azure Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network & Azure Engineer to join our dynamic infrastructure team in Downtown London. This hybrid role offers the perfect balance of onsite collaboration and remote flexibility, requiring three days in the office and two days working from home. As a key member of our engineering group, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of our enterprise-grade networking solutions, with a heavy focus on Cisco technologies and Microsoft Azure cloud integration. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring our global connectivity remains robust, secure, and scalable as we continue our digital transformation journey.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Scope
- Enterprise Networking: You will lead the design and management of our Cisco-based network infrastructure. This includes advanced routing and switching using protocols such as BGP and OSPF. You will be the subject matter expert for our Cisco SD-WAN environment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability across our global sites.
- Azure Cloud Connectivity: A significant portion of this role involves building and maintaining our Azure networking footprint. You will manage VNets, VPN gateways, and ExpressRoute circuits to ensure seamless connectivity between our on-premises data centers and the cloud. You will also be responsible for configuring Azure Firewalls and implementing robust routing strategies within the cloud environment.
- Security and Modernization: Security is at the forefront of our operations. You will work closely with the security team to administer Palo Alto firewalls and manage our Zscaler deployment. Your expertise will be crucial in modernizing our network stack, moving towards more automated and software-defined architectures.
- Troubleshooting and Optimization: You will tackle complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 issues, performing deep-dive analysis to resolve connectivity problems in a multi-site, hybrid environment. You will also be responsible for maintaining comprehensive documentation, runbooks, and monitoring systems like LogicMonitor to ensure high availability.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
The ideal candidate will possess at least 5 years of professional experience in network engineering, with a proven track record of managing large-scale Cisco environments. You must have hands-on experience with Cisco SD-WAN and a deep understanding of Azure networking services. Experience with Zscaler is highly preferred. We are looking for someone who is not only technically proficient but also an excellent communicator, capable of collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams including DevOps, Security, and Cloud Infrastructure. While not mandatory, certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or Azure-specific credentials (AZ-700, AZ-104) will be viewed very favorably. Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep) and network automation (Python) is a significant plus as we move towards a more automated future. Candidates must demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of network performance and security.
Work Environment and Culture
