Position Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced PowerBI Developer for a critical long-term project based in Jackson, Mississippi, with remote flexibility. This role requires a seasoned professional with over 12 years of experience in the business intelligence and data analytics space. The successful candidate will be instrumental in transforming raw data into actionable insights for a state-level government client. This position demands a blend of technical mastery, analytical thinking, and the ability to navigate the unique requirements of public sector data management.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain sophisticated Power BI reports and interactive dashboards that provide clear visibility into complex datasets.
  • Utilize M Query and DAX to perform complex data transformations, time-intelligence calculations, and advanced statistical modeling.
  • Design and implement robust Data Models that support multi-source data integration from disparate legacy systems and modern cloud databases.
  • Enforce Row Level Security (RLS) to ensure data privacy and strict compliance with state and federal regulations regarding sensitive information.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries, primarily within SQL Server environments, to ensure efficient data extraction and processing.
  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to translate vague business requirements into precise, visual data stories that drive decision-making.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups and sprint reviews, contributing to a dynamic and transparent development lifecycle.
  • Manage and configure Microsoft 365 platform components, including Azure AD and Exchange integrations, to support the BI infrastructure.
  • Ensure all solutions adhere to strict security concepts, access control protocols, and data governance policies.

Mandatory Qualifications and State Experience

The most critical requirement for this position is prior experience working with State Government clients. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the specific reporting needs, compliance standards, and bureaucratic workflows associated with state-level agencies. Additionally, a Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst certification is required to validate your technical expertise and commitment to the platform’s best practices. Without documented state client experience, candidates will not be considered for this specific engagement.

Technical Expertise and Ecosystem Knowledge

With over a decade of experience, you should have a mastery of the entire Microsoft BI stack. This includes deep knowledge of the Azure ecosystem and how it supports data warehousing, ETL processes, and advanced analytics. You should be comfortable working with large, often messy datasets and have a keen eye for detail when it comes to data visualization best practices, ensuring that reports are not only functional but also accessible and user-friendly. Familiarity with Power BI Service administration and gateway management is also essential.

Work Environment and Professionalism

This role is situated within a professional government contracting environment. It requires a self-starter who can acclimate quickly to existing workflows while providing innovative suggestions for improvement. While the role is remote-friendly, the candidate must be able to align with Central Time Zone business hours and maintain high levels of communication with the project team. You will be expected to document your processes thoroughly and provide knowledge transfer to internal staff as the project progresses. The ability to handle shifting priorities and maintain a focus on data accuracy is paramount.
