Role Overview
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Product Owner for a critical 6-month contract engagement located in Parsippany, New Jersey. This position is designed for a professional who brings a minimum of 6 to 8+ years of experience in product management, business analysis, and project leadership. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between complex business objectives and technical execution. This role requires a deep understanding of the product lifecycle, from initial conception and requirement gathering to final delivery and user acceptance. As a Product Owner, you will be the primary advocate for the product’s vision, ensuring that every sprint delivers tangible value to the business and its customers.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Requirement Engineering: Develop and maintain high-quality functional requirement business documents (BRDs). This involves conducting deep-dive sessions with stakeholders to extract core needs and translating them into technical requirements that the development team can execute.
- Process Mapping: Create detailed business process flows and use cases. You will be responsible for visualizing the user journey and identifying potential bottlenecks or improvements in the business logic.
- Backlog Management: Take full ownership of the product backlog. This includes the continuous process of defining, prioritizing, and refining backlog items to ensure the development team is always focused on the highest-priority tasks that align with the strategic roadmap.
- User Story Development: Translate broad business requirements into granular, actionable user stories. Each story must include clear and concise acceptance criteria to ensure there is no ambiguity during the development and testing phases.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the central point of contact for stakeholders, technical teams, and UI/UX designers. You will facilitate communication to ensure that all parties are aligned on the product’s direction and that technical constraints are balanced with business desires.
- Agile Leadership: Actively participate in and often lead Agile ceremonies. This includes sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. You will be responsible for ensuring the team adheres to Agile principles to maximize efficiency and output.
- Quality Assurance & UAT: Lead the execution of User Acceptance Testing (UAT) scenarios. You will work closely with the QA team to validate that the delivered features meet the business requirements and provide a high-quality user experience.
- Mobile & Front-End Expertise: Apply specialized knowledge in mobile testing and front-end application validation. Given the modern landscape of hotel technology, ensuring a seamless experience across mobile devices is a top priority.
- Tool Proficiency: Utilize JIRA and Confluence as the primary tools for project management, tracking progress, and maintaining comprehensive documentation.
- Strategic Delivery: Ensure the timely delivery of product features. You will manage timelines and expectations, making difficult trade-off decisions when necessary to maintain project momentum without sacrificing quality.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience in a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Senior Business Analyst role within a software development environment.
- Domain Expertise: Significant experience within the Hotel or Hospitality domain is a mandatory requirement. Candidates must understand the unique challenges and workflows associated with hotel management systems, booking engines, or guest services.
- Agile Mastery: Proven experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment. You should be comfortable with rapid iteration and changing priorities.
- Technical Literacy: While this is a business-facing role, a strong understanding of technical architectures, APIs, and front-end technologies is essential for effective communication with developers.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required. You must be able to present complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders and technical details to developers with equal clarity.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about product growth and user engagement.
