Role Overview
CVS Health is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced SAS Developer with a strong proficiency in Python and SQL to join our dynamic enterprise data team. This is a long-term, onsite position based in either Hartford, Connecticut, or Dallas, Texas. As a key member of our analytics and data engineering group, you will be responsible for supporting critical healthcare data processing, advanced analytics, and enterprise-level reporting initiatives. This role is ideal for a technical professional who excels in managing large-scale datasets and is passionate about driving modernization efforts within a Fortune 500 healthcare environment.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust SAS programs, including the creation and optimization of complex SAS macros and batch processing jobs to ensure efficient data handling.
- Write and tune high-performance SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and validation across various relational database management systems.
- Develop and implement Python scripts to automate data processing workflows, enhance data integration, and support the transition from legacy systems to modern architectures.
- Perform comprehensive data analysis and reconciliation to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and consistency of data across multiple enterprise sources.
- Lead and support the modernization of legacy SAS workloads by migrating them to Python-based frameworks and cloud-native solutions (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, business analysts, and clinical stakeholders, to understand data requirements and deliver actionable insights.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to data pipelines and batch jobs, ensuring minimal downtime and high reliability of data services.
- Ensure all data processes adhere to strict data governance, security, and healthcare compliance standards, including HIPAA regulations.
- Document technical specifications, data flow diagrams, and process workflows to maintain a high standard of knowledge sharing and system maintainability.
Technical Requirements and Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience with Base SAS, SAS Macros, and SAS SQL in a large-scale enterprise environment.
- Proven expertise in SQL development, including advanced query optimization and performance tuning for massive datasets.
- Strong proficiency in Python, particularly for data manipulation, automation, and building ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and data lifecycle management.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git for collaborative code development and management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business needs into technical solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience in SAS-to-Python migration or modernization projects is highly desirable.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.
- Domain expertise in the Healthcare or Pharmaceutical industries, including familiarity with healthcare data models and regulatory requirements.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.

This position is 100% onsite at our facilities in Hartford, CT, or Dallas, TX. Compensation & Location
Salary: $130,000 – $180,000 per year (Estimated)
