Role Overview: VmWare Migration Architect

Siri InfoSolutions is seeking an experienced and highly skilled VmWare Migration Architect for an immediate, onsite contract position in Irvine, CA. This role is critical for clients looking to modernize their infrastructure by migrating existing VMware environments to AWS EC2 and exploring modernization paths to EKS. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in VMware technologies, cloud migration strategies, and AWS services, with a strong focus on ensuring seamless transitions and optimal performance in the cloud.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute complex VMware migration projects, specifically targeting AWS EC2 environments.
  • Design and implement modernization paths for applications to AWS EKS post-migration.
  • Utilize extensive experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vMotion, DRS, HA, and SRM to manage and optimize virtualized infrastructures.
  • Apply hands-on expertise with VMware Cloud on AWS, including HCX migrations and cross-cloud mobility solutions.
  • Understand and address the nuances of Java/.NET workload hosting on VMware and their dependent middleware, such as TIBCO ESB, during migration planning.
  • Possess knowledge of backend database stacks, including Oracle 19c, Exadata on AWS, and SQL Server, considering VM-level implications for migration.
  • Manage virtualization dependencies for Windows Server (2016-2025) and RHEL (7-9) operating systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with VMware networking components, including vSwitch, dvSwitch, VLAN, and NSX (preferred).
  • Leverage automation tools such as PowerCLI, Terraform, and Ansible to streamline migration processes and infrastructure provisioning.
  • Provide strong troubleshooting skills for VM performance issues, storage mapping, and cross-platform challenges encountered during migration.
  • Conduct thorough workload discovery, dependency mapping, and capacity planning to ensure successful migration outcomes.
  • Design and implement AWS EC2/EBS architectures for migrated VMs, focusing on high-availability and resilience.
  • Utilize VMware Cloud on AWS, including HCX network extension capabilities, to facilitate seamless workload mobility.
  • Understand Amazon EKS for container modernization strategies following VM migration.
  • Apply knowledge of AWS networking principles, including VPC, routing, Direct Connect/VPN, Transit Gateway (TGW), and security boundaries.
  • Integrate VMware migrations with AWS monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery services to ensure business continuity.
  • Familiarity with Terraform-based AWS infrastructure automation and various migration tools is highly desirable.
  • Ability to map VMware storage solutions to AWS EBS, EFS, FSx, and understand Exadata connectivity patterns in a hybrid cloud environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vMotion, DRS, HA, and SRM.
  • Strong background in VMware migration approaches to AWS EC2 and modernization paths to EKS.
  • Hands-on expertise with VMware Cloud on AWS, HCX migrations, and cross-cloud mobility.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $120,000 – $180,000 per year (Estimated)

Location: Irvine, CA
