Role Overview: AWS Java Developer for Enterprise Cloud Migration

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated AWS Java Developer to join our dynamic engineering team in Quincy, MA. This is a long-term contract opportunity focused on leading and executing critical cloud migration initiatives for a major enterprise client. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on engineer with a deep background in Java/J2EE development and a proven track record of architecting, deploying, and optimizing applications within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) ecosystem. As a senior member of the development team, you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of cloud-native applications, from initial design through to production deployment and ongoing performance tuning.

Key Responsibilities and Technical Leadership

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable cloud-native applications using Java/J2EE and the Spring Boot framework.
  • Lead complex on-premises to AWS cloud migration projects, utilizing strategies such as re-hosting, re-platforming, and full re-architecting to microservices.
  • Architect and manage secure, highly available AWS infrastructure components including EC2, S3, RDS, and DynamoDB.
  • Develop and expose RESTful APIs and microservices architectures to support modern web and mobile front-ends.
  • Implement and automate CI/CD pipelines using industry-standard tools like AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions.
  • Optimize application performance, cost-efficiency, and security posture within the AWS environment.
  • Collaborate closely with enterprise architects, DevOps engineers, and cross-functional business units to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Enforce AWS best practices, security standards, and governance policies across all development and migration activities.

Required Technical Expertise

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in Java/J2EE development with a focus on enterprise-grade systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Security.
  • Hardcore, hands-on experience with core AWS services: Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, EKS, and VPC.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills using CloudFormation or Terraform for environment provisioning.
  • Proven experience in containerization technologies, specifically Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture patterns and distributed systems.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience with both relational (RDS) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) database design.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting, debugging, and performance-tuning capabilities in high-traffic environments.

Professional Environment and Location

This position is based onsite in Quincy, Massachusetts. Candidates must be comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced office environment. Quincy offers a vibrant professional community with easy access to the greater Boston area, providing a perfect balance of urban convenience and coastal charm.
