Position Summary: Java Development Specialist
Russell Tobin & Associates is proud to represent a premier opportunity for a Java Developer to join a dynamic, remote-first team based out of Columbus, OH. This role is tailored for a developer with 6 to 8 years of experience who excels in core and advanced Java concepts. As the industry shifts towards more integrated DevOps practices in 2026, we are looking for an individual who can navigate the complexities of modern cloud-native development while maintaining the integrity of core backend systems.
Core Technical Responsibilities
The primary focus of this position is the development and optimization of high-throughput applications using the Spring Framework and Spring Boot. You will be responsible for writing clean, maintainable code and optimizing complex SQL queries to ensure database performance. A key differentiator for this role is the integration of DevOps tooling directly into the development workflow. You will be expected to work with GitHub Actions and Harness NextGen to manage CI/CD pipelines, ensuring that code moves from development to production with minimal friction and maximum reliability.
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Implement advanced Java concepts to solve complex architectural challenges.
- Utilize Mocking Frameworks such as Mockito or JMock to ensure comprehensive test coverage.
- Manage and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Harness NextGen.
- Collaborate with the DevOps team to enhance continuous integration and delivery processes.
- Provide technical expertise in Guidewire products, specifically within the PolicyCenter (PC) domain.
- Participate in daily stand-ups and contribute to the Agile development lifecycle.
Required Skills and Experience
We require 6 to 8 years of professional experience in Java development. Candidates must demonstrate deep expertise in the Spring ecosystem and a strong command of SQL. Experience with modern DevOps tools is essential, as the role demands a high degree of autonomy in managing the deployment lifecycle. Familiarity with Guidewire products is highly preferred, as it aligns with our current project trajectory in the insurance technology sector. Excellent communication skills are a must for this remote-based position to ensure effective collaboration across time zones.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $130,000 – $175,000 per year (Estimated)
