Role Overview: AWS SRE DevOps Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced AWS SRE DevOps Engineer for a long-term contract position based onsite in Austin, Texas. This role is designed for a technical powerhouse with over 10 years of IT experience, specifically bridging the gap between high-performance backend development and robust cloud infrastructure management. As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), you will be responsible for ensuring that our microservices architecture remains scalable, secure, and resilient under heavy production loads. This position requires a deep understanding of the Java ecosystem, modern DevOps practices, and the intricacies of AWS cloud-native deployments.

Key Responsibilities and Technical Deep-Dive

  • Backend Development & System Architecture: You will design and maintain high-performance microservices using Java and Spring Boot. Your work will involve managing distributed data systems including Redis, MongoDB, and Kafka to ensure seamless data flow and low-latency processing. You will be expected to architect systems with zero-downtime deployment capabilities, utilizing JVM tuning and memory profiling to optimize application performance.
  • Cloud Infrastructure & Containerization: A significant portion of this role involves managing AWS cloud infrastructure. You will be the primary lead for EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service), Docker, and Helm chart management. You will implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure consistent environment provisioning across development, staging, and production.
  • CI/CD and Automation: You will build and refine automated CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub, and Maven. Your goal is to streamline the release process, reducing manual intervention and increasing deployment frequency while maintaining high quality.
  • Monitoring, Security, and Reliability: Reliability is at the core of this role. You will implement comprehensive monitoring and logging solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and Splunk. You will also be responsible for Nginx configuration for traffic management and DDoS protection, ensuring the system is secure against vulnerabilities and compliant with industry standards.
  • Operational Excellence: You will drive efficiency through automation and AI-driven tools. This includes providing production support, performing root cause analysis (RCA) for incidents, and participating in an on-call rotation to maintain high availability.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional IT experience with a focus on backend engineering and DevOps.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on Java development experience using Spring Boot and Microservices.
  • Expert-level knowledge of AWS services, particularly EKS, EC2, and S3.
  • Strong proficiency in Kubernetes orchestration and Docker containerization.
  • Experience with distributed messaging and NoSQL databases (Kafka, MongoDB, Redis).
  • Scripting expertise in Python, Groovy, or Shell for automation tasks.
  • Proven track record in implementing IaC and automated deployment pipelines.

Special Requirements

Interview: Phone and Webex. Onsite role in Austin, TX. Long term contract.
