Role Overview: SAP Data Architect

As we move into 2026, the role of the SAP Data Architect has become the cornerstone of the intelligent enterprise. This position in Austin, TX, offers a unique opportunity to lead the transformation of enterprise data into a strategic asset. The successful candidate will be responsible for building a robust SAP data foundation, defining the protocols for how systems store, share, and manage trusted data across a global footprint.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • Architectural Leadership: Produce comprehensive reference data architectures by collaborating with cross-functional teams including application, analytics, integration, and security experts. These blueprints will serve as the standard for all new solutions and enterprise-wide data initiatives.
  • AI and Analytics Enablement: Drive the success of advanced AI and machine learning use cases by ensuring that underlying data is consistent, governed, and easily discoverable. You will bridge the gap between raw transactional data and actionable insights.
  • Platform Optimization: Leverage the full power of the SAP Business Data Cloud, Datasphere, and MDG (Master Data Governance) to unify disparate data sources and eliminate redundant data copies, thereby reducing technical debt and storage costs.
  • Data Modeling and Governance: Define and maintain common data model catalogs to foster a shared understanding of core business entities. You will evolve standards for data ownership, metadata management, and lineage tracking to ensure regulatory compliance and data integrity.
  • System Protection: Implement strategies to protect core transactional systems from performance degradation by preventing excessive replication and optimizing extraction loads.

Technical Proficiency Requirements

  • Deep expertise in SAP master data and transactional data domains, specifically within S/4HANA environments.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP MDG, Business Data Cloud, BW, and Datasphere platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of data modeling techniques, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
  • Proven ability to integrate SAP data ecosystems with non-SAP analytics platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Data Lake, or AWS Redshift).
  • Understanding of modern data architectures that support real-time analytics and stringent regulatory requirements like GDPR or CCPA.

Professional and Soft Skills

  • Visionary Alignment: Ability to align engineering and data teams around a unified vision, driving consensus on complex architectural decisions.
  • Conflict Resolution: Strong facilitation skills to resolve disputes regarding data ownership and definition across different business units.
  • Strategic Communication: Clear communicator capable of explaining technical trade-offs and cost-benefit analyses to executive stakeholders.
  • Pragmatic Innovation: A mindset focused on delivering immediate value while ensuring long-term scalability and simplification.
  • Constructive Critique: Comfortable participating in and leading Architecture Review Board (ARB) sessions, providing constructive feedback to improve system designs.
