Role Overview: SAP BTP Architect
Scalable Systems is currently seeking a highly experienced SAP BTP Architect for a critical long-term engagement in Austin, Texas. This role requires a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in the SAP ecosystem, specifically focusing on the Business Technology Platform (BTP) and S/4HANA environments. As an SAP Application Architect, you will be the primary visionary for defining end-to-end application architecture that aligns perfectly with the client’s overarching business strategy and enterprise standards. This is a high-impact position that demands a deep understanding of modern SAP methodologies, including the ‘Clean Core’ approach, to ensure that the digital core remains agile and upgradeable for future technological shifts.
Key Responsibilities and Strategic Impact
- Produce comprehensive Reference Architectures by collaborating closely with platform, integration, data, and security engineering teams to ensure a cohesive technical landscape.
- Enforce and champion Clean Core principles across the organization, distinguishing clearly between SAP Standard functionality, In-App Extensibility, and Side-by-Side Extensions.
- Review and approve complex technical designs to minimize unnecessary customization, reduce technical debt, and mitigate long-term maintenance risks.
- Establish and maintain application-level standards for Monitoring, Logging, and Observability to ensure high availability and performance across the SAP landscape.
- Evaluate and influence the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for SAP solutions, accounting for build, support, and future upgrade costs.
- Act as a trusted advisor to Information Systems and Technology (IST) leadership and lead Architecture Review Board (ARB) sessions to drive consensus on technical direction.
- Design for operational readiness, ensuring that all solutions are performant, scalable, and maintainable over a multi-year lifecycle.
Technical Expertise and Skill Requirements
- Expert-level proficiency in SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and SAP S/4HANA functional and technical architecture.
- Deep understanding of SAP Extensibility options, including the use of SAP Build, CAP (Cloud Application Programming Model), and RAP (RESTful ABAP Programming Model).
- Proven experience in assessing legacy custom code, complex workflows, and existing enhancements for potential simplification or retirement.
- Familiarity with Application Performance Management (APM) tools and their integration into the SAP landscape.
- Strong knowledge of Agile and DevOps methodologies as they apply to SAP development and deployment cycles.
- Ability to design side-by-side extensions that leverage BTP services while keeping the S/4HANA core ‘clean’ and standard.
Professional Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field. With at least 15 years of professional experience, you should have a track record of leading large-scale SAP transformations and architectural reviews. Excellent communication skills are paramount, as you will be required to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership. You must be comfortable making high-stakes decisions that balance speed of delivery with long-term architectural integrity and cost-effectiveness. This position is strictly onsite in Austin, TX, requiring a 5-day-a-week physical presence to facilitate direct collaboration with the engineering and business teams.

Special Requirements
Must be available to work Onsite 5 days a week in Austin, TX. C2C engagement with a maximum rate of $85/hr.
