Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior SAP IS-U Billing Consultant to join a long-term program from early design through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing regulatory support. This role is ideal for a hands-on IS-U Billing expert who has led billing design from project inception and is comfortable owning complex rate architecture, schema configuration, and real-world operational scenarios in a utility environment. You will play a key role in shaping billing strategy, translating tariffs into SAP, advising business stakeholders, and supporting end-to-end billing processes across electric and gas sectors.
Key Technical Skills & Configuration
- Rate Architecture: Deep hands-on experience with rate categories, rate types, and operand design.
- Schema Configuration: Expertise in billing schema architecture, rate step configuration, and variant programs.
- Technical Components: Proficiency in price key configuration, register relationships, and multi-register TOU billing.
- Advanced Logic: Experience with demand billing logic and proration across rate changes.
- Customization: Ability to design and implement custom enhancements using BAdIs.
- Integration: Strong understanding of integration points with FI-CA and other downstream systems.
- Utility Operations: Knowledge of meter exchange mid-cycle, TOU register missing interval data, and demand reset logic.
Project Lifecycle Responsibilities
- Design Leadership: Lead SAP IS-U Billing design and configuration across complex utility rate structures.
- Tariff Translation: Translate regulatory tariffs into SAP billing schemas, operands, and rate steps.
- Stakeholder Management: Partner with business teams on rate modeling and billing impacts.
- Workshops: Facilitate design workshops and Fit/Gap sessions with business and regulatory teams.
- Documentation: Produce high-quality functional design documents (FDDs) and technical specifications.
- Testing & Support: Assist with SIT/UAT, defect resolution, and billing validation during deployment and post-go-live.
- Regulatory Compliance: Support ongoing regulatory updates and enhancements to ensure billing accuracy.
Qualifications
- Experience: 6+ years of SAP IS-U Billing (BI) experience in regulated utility environments.
- Technical Depth: Strong hands-on configuration background (not advisory only).
- Full Lifecycle: Experience supporting projects from blueprint through go-live.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of utility billing processes and rate design for electric and gas.
- Communication: Proven ability to work directly with business and regulatory stakeholders.
- Travel: Consultant must be prepared to travel 2 weeks per month (Tue-Thu) for the first 8 months.
Operational Excellence
In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for complex billing scenarios such as net generation credit rollover, cancel/re-bill processes, and rate refunds. Your ability to explain configuration and operational handling of billing reversals and budget billing annual true-ups will be critical to the project’s success. This is not a support-only role; you must be comfortable driving design decisions and partnering directly with utility business users to ensure the SAP solution meets the unique needs of the regulated utility market.
Special Requirements
Visa: USC/GC/GC-EAD/H4-EAD. Travel: 2 weeks per month (Tue-Thu) for first 8 months, then monthly until April 2027.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $165,000 – $225,000 per year (Estimated)
