Role Overview: Identity and Access Management (IAM) Engineer

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled IAM Engineer to join our client, the State of Ohio, in a critical onsite role based in Columbus, OH. This position is essential for managing and securing identity and access for a vast workforce of over 110,000 accounts and an additional 8 million user accounts. The IAM Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting mission-critical systems, resolving user management issues, and contributing to the design and development of robust identity solutions. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with an IT background, some programming or system administration experience, and a strong desire to specialize in IAM concepts and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage and resolve user issues related to identity and access for a large-scale enterprise environment, handling an average ticket workload of over 100 identity issues per month.
  • Provide comprehensive support to various state agencies concerning mission-critical systems and complex user management challenges.
  • Design and develop innovative solutions for joiner/mover/leaver scenarios, ensuring seamless onboarding, role changes, and offboarding processes for both custom software and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with the Office of Information Security and Privacy (OISP) on various security initiatives to enhance the overall security posture of the state’s IT infrastructure.
  • Support and manage Privileged Access Management (PAM) systems, ensuring secure access for administrative accounts.
  • Perform user ID management and provide comprehensive support for identity-related queries and issues.
  • Process and manage bulk ID requests for updates, provisioning, and information retrieval efficiently.
  • Configure and support Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions, ensuring a streamlined and secure authentication experience for users.
  • Provide support and optimize Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) implementations to strengthen security layers.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities within IAM processes to reduce manual effort and improve support efficiency.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and adoption of IAM capabilities across the organization.
  • Participate in in-person interviews at 30 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio, and work 100% onsite at the same address.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with software administration, development, and/or systems support.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience handling user issues and trouble tickets in a professional IT environment.
  • Familiarity with Identity and Access Management (IAM) concepts or a strong, demonstrable desire to learn and grow in this domain.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) is highly desired.
  • An IT background with a foundational understanding of networking, operating systems, and security principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex identity-related issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly when managing a high volume of tickets.
  • Candidates must agree to complete an FBI fingerprint background check prior to starting the position.
  • Ability to interview in-person at the specified Columbus, Ohio location.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $83,200 – $124,800 per year (Estimated)
