Overview of the Senior Web Designer Role
Our client is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Web Designer to join their dynamic team. This pivotal role involves leading and participating in the comprehensive design, development, layout, and coding of a newly developed website. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the overall web experience for all stakeholders, ensuring a user-centric and visually appealing digital presence. As a key contributor to digital media strategic initiatives, the Senior Web Designer will also serve as a subject-matter expert on website design and layout, guiding best practices and innovative solutions. This is a hybrid position, requiring a blend of remote and on-site work, specifically tailored for Wisconsin residents.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Website Strategy Contribution: Actively contribute to the overarching website strategy, providing valuable insights and recommending strategic changes to leadership to enhance user engagement and functionality.
- Design and Layout Development: Take the lead in developing and designing the entire navigation flow, meticulously crafting the layout of specific pages, and creating individual graphic elements. Ensure that all design elements, templates, and finished solutions are fully compatible across a diverse range of browser types and screen settings, while adhering to development and design constraints.
- Digital Media Initiative Implementation: Develop and implement strategic digital media initiatives, defining priorities, objectives, and best practices in close collaboration with leadership and other functional work units.
- Graphical and Style Standards: Establish and implement robust graphical and style standards for all websites, ensuring brand consistency and a professional aesthetic.
- Product Evaluation and Implementation: Evaluate and implement both open-source and commercial products to effectively meet project needs and enhance website capabilities.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a primary subject matter expert, consultant, and main point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders regarding website and application options, design, maintenance, and ongoing support.
Required Skills and Experience
To excel in this role, candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in the following areas:
- Complex Web Property Design & Development: Proven experience in designing and developing complex, accessible, and highly useful web properties utilizing WordPress. This includes a strong understanding and adherence to brand guidelines and WCAG 2.2 recommendations and standards to ensure inclusivity and usability.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Demonstrated experience working effectively with multiple stakeholders to develop and deliver strategic website projects within defined timelines, showcasing strong project management and communication skills.
- Graphic Design Principles: Expertise in applying graphic design principles to create beautifully alluring and engaging websites that capture user attention and facilitate intuitive interaction.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
While not strictly required, candidates with the following experience will be highly regarded:
- Industry Experience: Experience gained within healthcare, higher education, or scientific research environments, providing a contextual understanding of specific industry needs and regulations.
- Database-Driven Applications: Experience in developing and/or deploying database-driven online applications, particularly those that empower content owners and providers to independently maintain their web information.

Special Requirements

Compensation & Location
Salary: $93,600 – $135,200 per year (Estimated)
