Position Overview: SAP FICA Lead (Utilities)

Tek Inspirations LLC is currently scouting for a visionary SAP FICA Lead to spearhead our Utilities (IS-U) initiatives in the Phoenix, Arizona region. This hybrid role requires a blend of deep technical expertise in SAP Financial Contract Accounting and a strategic mindset to navigate the complexities of the modern energy and utility landscape. As we move into 2026, the integration of renewable energy sources and smart grid technologies demands a robust billing and financial backend, making this role pivotal to our client’s success. The utility sector is undergoing a massive shift toward decentralized energy resources, and the SAP FICA module sits at the heart of this transformation, managing high-volume transactions with precision and reliability.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of SAP FICA solutions, ensuring alignment with specific utility industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define project scopes, identifying key performance indicators and ensuring that deliverables meet the high-stakes demands of the energy sector.
  • Conduct comprehensive requirement analysis and translate business needs into detailed functional specifications for SAP FICA-Utilities projects.
  • Oversee the complex integration of SAP FICA with other SAP modules such as SAP CRM, SAP IS-U Billing, and external 3rd party payment gateways.
  • Provide expert-level guidance on SAP FICA configuration, including the setup of main and sub-transactions, payment lots, and dunning procedures.
  • Manage project timelines and resource allocation, ensuring that large-scale implementations remain within budget and meet critical milestones.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer through workshops and training sessions for end-users, ensuring the organization can leverage the full potential of the SAP ecosystem.
  • Stay at the forefront of SAP S/4HANA Utilities developments, recommending innovative solutions to enhance system performance and user experience.
  • Ensure strict compliance with data privacy standards and financial regulations inherent in the utility domain.
  • Drive continuous improvement by analyzing system bottlenecks and implementing optimization strategies for high-volume transaction processing.
  • Mentor junior consultants and technical staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and domain mastery.
  • Participate in steering committee meetings to provide technical insights into the long-term roadmap of the utility’s financial systems.

Technical Requirements and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in SAP environments, with at least 7 years dedicated to SAP FICA within the Utilities sector. A deep understanding of the SAP IS-U module is mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in BRF+ (Business Rule Framework plus) for automating complex business decisions. Experience in the Utility/Energy domain is non-negotiable, as the role requires an intimate understanding of meter-to-cash processes, move-in/move-out procedures, and regulatory billing requirements. Strong analytical skills are essential for troubleshooting complex financial discrepancies and optimizing automated processes. Excellent communication skills are required to manage stakeholder expectations and lead diverse teams in a fast-paced, hybrid work environment. Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA is highly desirable as the industry moves toward cloud-based ERP solutions. The candidate should also be familiar with the integration of smart meter data into the billing cycle.

This position is based in Phoenix, AZ, and follows a hybrid model requiring onsite presence 2-3 times per week. Local candidates are strongly preferred to facilitate immediate collaboration. However, for exceptional talent outside the region, travel to the Phoenix office will be required.
