Role Overview

Ekcel Technologies is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated IBM DataStage Developer with a specialized background in the Healthcare Payer domain. This role is pivotal in managing complex data integration projects for our healthcare clients in Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will leverage over 6 years of professional experience to design and implement robust ETL solutions that ensure data integrity and accessibility across the enterprise. As the healthcare industry moves toward more data-driven decision-making, your role will be essential in transforming raw data into actionable insights that improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop end-to-end ETL processes using IBM DataStage to handle large-scale healthcare data migrations and integrations.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Payer subject matter experts to understand claims, enrollment, and provider data structures.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries and stored procedures within SQL Server environments to facilitate data extraction.
  • Utilize Unix/Linux shell scripting for job automation, file management, and system troubleshooting.
  • Perform rigorous unit testing and performance tuning to ensure ETL jobs meet strict service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all data mapping and transformation logic.
  • Participate in daily stand-ups and provide technical updates to project managers and stakeholders.

Technical Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience specifically with IBM DataStage (v11.x preferred).
  • Deep expertise in SQL Server, including performance tuning and advanced T-SQL.
  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux environments and shell scripting (Bash/Korn).
  • Strong understanding of Data Warehousing principles (Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, SCD Type 1/2).
  • Excellent analytical skills to troubleshoot complex data discrepancies.
  • Experience with version control systems and automated deployment tools.

Healthcare Domain Expertise

Candidates must possess a solid understanding of the Healthcare Payer landscape. This includes familiarity with HIPAA regulations, EDI transactions (834, 837, 270/271), and the lifecycle of a healthcare claim. Experience working with payer-specific data models is highly desirable as it allows for faster integration into our ongoing projects. Understanding the nuances of member eligibility and provider networks will be a significant advantage in this role.

Collaboration and Quality Assurance

In this role, you will not work in a vacuum. You will be part of a cross-functional team including Data Architects, Business Analysts, and QA Engineers. You will be responsible for conducting thorough code reviews and ensuring that all ETL jobs adhere to the company’s coding standards and security protocols. Your commitment to quality will help prevent data leakage and ensure that the healthcare data remains secure and compliant with federal regulations.
