Role Overview: Java Solution Architect
We are urgently seeking a high-caliber Java Solution Architect for a critical onsite role in Chicago, IL. This is not a standard development position; we are looking for a ‘Better Engineer’—someone with a core engineering mindset who can drive a massive modernization effort. You will be the catalyst for transforming legacy systems into modern, cloud-native architectures, moving toward an autopilot engineering model. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can diagnose complex technical issues and architect resilient solutions without needing granular direction.
Core Technical Stack
- Expertise in Core Java (versions 17 and 21) and the Spring Ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud).
- Advanced proficiency in Azure Public Cloud services, including AKS, Azure Functions, and Service Bus.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot to accelerate delivery and improve code quality.
- Strong knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform and automated CI/CD pipelines.
- Deep understanding of resiliency patterns: timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, and dead letter queues.
Transformation & Leadership
- Assessment & Roadmap: You will evaluate the current technology landscape, identify technical debt, and create a strategic roadmap for modernization.
- Culture Change: Act as a mentor to a team with over a decade of legacy experience, breaking old patterns and introducing modern engineering practices.
- AI Adoption: Lead the operationalization of AI tools for unit test generation, code reviews, and impact diagnosis.
- Operational Excellence: Transition tribal knowledge into scalable, documented processes and engineering playbooks.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and build stable, scalable systems that minimize production incidents.
- Write high-quality, performant Java code while overseeing the technical output of the team.
- Drive cloud ownership within application teams, managing IAM, scaling, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure technical solutions align with business objectives.
- Ensure high code coverage and robust automated testing across all services.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have over 15 years of experience in the software industry, with a proven track record of leading large-scale Java projects. You must be a local candidate to Chicago or willing to relocate immediately, as this role requires a consistent onsite presence at our 60604 location. Compensation & Location
Salary: $170,000 – $240,000 per year
